I am considering removing the back wall of cabin and front wall in bed. Any advice??? this one is 100% DAILY DRIVER AND NEEDS TO NOT LEAK! I am considering using an accordion boot to make the seal. How much does the cabin shift differently then the bed (they move independently), what should I allow for movement between the box and vehicle cabin...assuming that the body of the box is mounted in bed?
Also need to know how many moreee 9917's you think I should add once there is the space???

Depending on how long the truck is. I had to allow 2" all the way around the boot for movement. The best thing to do is get the boot installed and then drive it around and watch how much it moves. I used a accordion boot and used a polyurthane sealent in the grove then pushed the boot onto it. Hasnt leaked at all. Make sure your seam is on the bottom so water doesnt come in the seam.

Truck is about paid off and I have rebuilt it 10 times with each rebuild ending up with me saying " I wish I had the room to go deeper". I think it is about time.
Concerned/wondering... will the body/bed need to be reinforced anywhere?
posted
I didnt do any reinforcing and mine is holding up fine.

If you look in the top pic the gap is even. In the pic on the bottom you can see the metal is bowing outward was starting to fold the back of the cab. If you weld it were I did you cant see any burn mark from the welder, and it is much stronger.

Is the top picture taken from the pass side interior of cabin looking back toward the bed? I can't quite figure out what I am looking at, can you circle the area you are talking about? Thank you for the help.

Both pics are from the drivers side in the cab looking into the bed of the truck.

Ummmmm....how do I get the rear glass out of the cabin??? Was thinking about running thin bare metal wire through the gasket and sliding it around the perimeter to break the seal, two man job. is this correct?
posted
Your going to need a new seal "if" you ever use it again. just get a razor knife and cut the gasket and you can just push it right out.
