getting rid of the rattle is the main concern and it does the job. i'm confused on your statement..what does dynamat and second skin offer more than getting rid of rattles?
Perhaps it doesnt offer the cool "name"? Ive used it in three vehicles so far. 0 issues. Rattles needed silencing.....silenced? All.
Spent? 1/3 of what i would have.
It does help with the rattles yes but it also lowers the overall noise floor. Basically the road noise from outside is a lot quieter which is nice on long drives.
Roofing stuff and similar products don't always absorb vibration as well.

Well, just put 2 layers of peal n seal on the ceiling of my SPL van. Hopefully in 8 hrs, we'll see if my score suffers or gets better. Crossing fingers, toes, eyes, and anything else I can cross.

well, couldn't really tell if the peel and seal worked or not. on one hand, my kick score was down but my driveby score was up a little. Guess I have to do some more testing to find out. In 2 wks, MECA world finals will be going on and I guess then, we'll see if it really works.

On the peel n seal---if you don't prep the surface right, heat it, and apply it with a roller----it is coming off later. You have to install it right, or it will fall off. I have it in two vehicles---been there for over 2 years in one, and 3 years in the other. Alabama heat--never came off. This is from several different purchases over a spread out time period--so it is not a "batch" issue.

You can also use Grace Select Ice and Water Shield. It comes in a 200sq.ft roll for about $60. I used it on my trunk lid with good results. Has been there for around 2 years now.
Somebody asked how many mils Peal n Seal is. If I remember right it's 40mil

I live in northern minnesota were it gets to be 40 -50 below in the winters and i was just wondering which of these two deadeners would be best for adhesion and lasting through long cold winters, and if anyones used both, what would be a better product overall. thanks , matt

i've used dynamat, dynamat extreme, and second skin.
i prefer peal & seal.
as mentioned, if its applied CORRECTLY, then it doesnt come off.
i have 2 layers on the interior of my car, and i have 2 layers throughout my truck.
i TRIED taking it off my truck doors last week, so i could do some work on the door handles. THAT was a serious chore.
you prep the metal, with metal cleaner / metal prep. cut the pieces, press them on. heat with a blow torch or heat gun, and roll with a wooden roller. they dont come off.
i have used the edeadv3 paint on stuff. i'll tell ya two things. 1. it looks like a smurf exploded in my trunk. 2. it was NOT easier than just putting on the adhesive sheet type products. this stuf was a major pain in the butt. and it took two gallons to do a proper coat in my entire trunk area. that's over 150 bucks with the shipping. (back when i got it) it would have been easier and cheaper to use P&S.
also, i've seen someone recently say that Peal & Seal was the same price as second skin... no its not. p&s runs $1.00 per square foot. and you can buy it in small rolls and spread out your money.. ie: bu a roll today, buy a roll next week, etc... 12 bucks a pop. you cant do that with second skin or any of the other products, you gott buy large amounts at a time. for some thats fine, but for others its not. not to mention, no shipping on p&s

i wont blow smoke and say p&s is BETTER than dynamat extreme. equal.. in my opinion yes.
peel & seal is at lowes, in the roofing department. or home depot has a similar product. for the same price.
it comes in 6" wide x 24' rolls.. ie: 12 square feet for 12 bucks.
its MADE FOR ROOFS. ie: its meant to withstand high heat in the summer, and low temps in the winter.
i've heard of people out west, and down south, that dont have it available in thier stores... why.... because they dont have winters, so they dont need the peal & seal for thier roofs...
that tells me its GREAT for low temp winter places.
i'm in ohio. granted, not quite as cold as minnesota winters, but close. p&s has been on my car for two years. no issues.
also, if you cant find it at your lowes.. here's a link for peal & seal.. 100sq feet for 89 bucks.

I have used Hushmat, Peal & Seal, Dynamat Extreme and now Magic Mate. I would have to say that the Magic Mate is by far the superior dampener for extreme SPL situations. If I was just doing a simple job, not interested in competing, then I would recommend P&S. If you clean the surface with rubbing alchohol, heat the sheets prior to installing them, and then rolling them into place then they WILL NOT fall off. Heck, in some cases they won't even come out without ripping the piece.

I just bought something called Protect-O-Wrap (http://www.protectowrap.com). I got it form Home depot. It comes in 6" x 25', is aluminum backed and a ruberish/tar like sticky side. I've actually heard this is the same as P&S. You supposedly can buy larger rolls of it by asking for it, they dont have it on the shelves. anyways, here are some pics for you people.
Does it work? Heck yea. Seems to work real well, I will be buying 3 or 4 more rolls this week for the rest of the trunk. As a test I put a 5" piece under the car. The palce I put it is notorious for rattle. It is the spare tire hold down, which is a seperate piece of metal clippied into the spare tire well. After putting the piece there, the rattle was almost inaudible. I checked it after a week, to see if it was still sticking good (this week has been a mix of rain, cold, and warm weather). It is still there just like the day I put it on.
