I have an 87 S-10 Blazer and would like any information anyone has about flush mounting the radio into the dash opening. I have already cut some of the A/C vents behind the radio but I'm sure I need more room....I know alot of people have done this I just don't know how they did it. A little help guys???(and girls)

The easiest way to get it to fit and to still get good air flow out the vents is to cut the duct, then use duct tape to seal the hole up around the radio. But another way to do it is to use fiberglass or I have used a heat gun to warm the plastic enough to bend it backwards out of the way.

I have a '91 Jimmy and I used the cut-and-tape method. I tried the heat gun approach, but the plastic didn't flex enough to fit the way I wanted. I used a dremel tool to cut the vent, BTW. Overall, I'm pleased with the results, it looks much better compared to the seemingly huge kit that was ther before.

I don't know if any other S-10 owners have cut the vents under the dash speaker openings, but I did that also on the passenger side. I made custom panels to hold an RF Punch Audiophile "4 and a tweeter.
I have pics of the cut speaker vent also if anyone's interested.

I've done the heat gun trick here a few times. It takes some time but airflow is more or les unaffected.

What are the benefits of flush mounting? Do some cars not have enough depth or what? I was thinking of doing something similar so I could sink my deck into the dash and cover it up. Is that what you do it for?

GM left so little depth in the S-10 (not to mention most of their other cars) that mounting a deck flush is a nice custom touch. Most of the off-the-shelf kits make an aftermarket deck protrude around 5/8"
