I want to hook a back up camera I want it so I can switch it on, if I want, but I want it to automatically interupt whats on the TV when I shift into reverse..can I do this with a indash that dosen't have the rear veiw camera inputs?
A shop near me said that had a old a installer who did this once by using a switching relay(not a regular old relay he gave me what is believed to be the part number he said its maid by Tyco, will try to post part # later), but the installer moved out of state and opened his own shop so I wasn't able to talk to him, but it interupted the video feed from the the regular source and diverted the rear veiw feed in while the realy was activated, and they activated it off teh reverse lights. where can I get one of those relays, or is there a easier way?

you can use a single relay, take the video cable from the aux feed, cut it in half, reattach the shield, along with the shield from the video camera, (obviously you cut that cable also) wire the relay with pin 85 to ground, 86 to the reverse wire, 30 to the center conductor of the video cable going to the screen, 87a to the source unit of the video, or the other end of the center conductor that you cut, and 87 to the center conductor of rear camera.
basically when you are in reverse, the relay trips the other video source and now places the camera in line.
Now i am sure there is other variables, as what unit or screen you have. but if it is a basic unit, start with finding another installation shop, this was being done like 10 years ago...so it isn't a new technique
