Topic: Question regarding headunit's amp...
Currently, I have a Kenwood headunit that has 50Wx4. I have a three amp system, so currently I'm not using the internal amp of the headuit. Here's the issue: I want to add an additional set of tweeters - just tweeters. They are rated at like 50w RMS. Can I connect them using the speaker wires from the headunit, even though I'm utilizing the headunit's RCA output already? Will this work? Any drawbacks? Any one try this? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

You can. Drawbacks--you are not getting anywhere near 50 watts x4 from a headunit. You'd be lucky to be getting 10 watts. Because of that your system will never be balanced. Buy a small amp. Anything in the 35 watt range would be more than enough. -------------------- Team SounddomainThe Autophile GENESIS

Thanks for the feedback. I understand that the headunit does not put out 'real' wattage, but I am only trying to power small 3/4" tweeters. I don't want to give them too much power. I just want to make sure it is possible before I try it. Thanks again.

You can try it. Make sure to use an inline passive filter with the tweeters and you will be fine. -------------------- Team SounddomainThe Autophile GENESIS

Should be fine. The HU puts out near 20 watts rms (CEA 2006 ratings on most new radios I've seen has usually listed 17w). Just remember to use a capacitor inline to block the lows unless they come with their own crossovers. --------------------http://www.guardianmma.com
