how do we install this camera backup? the problem is on how to connect it to the 12v power wire.

our objective = have the camera function during
backing up as well as during driving.

my installer says that we can only make it function when my car is backing and this can be done by connecting the power wire to the reverse
lights of the car (the one that lights up when i back up the car)

he said that if we just connect this to the plain
power wire of the car then the camera would eventually drain the cars battery as it will continously be in the ON position.

how can i wire it such that i can use the camera when i backup my car AND when im on the highway driving normally. I will connect it in my Alpine IVA-D300.

you can wire the 12v plus to the acc wire, so when the key is turned, the camera comes on, and will not stay on all the time. A safer but slightly costlier way to do this would be with a relay in line between the iva d300 and amps, that way the camera is only on when the deck is powered up, and you have the added safety of a relay to protect your other equipment.

First find an installer that knows what he is talking about and has a clue.

first and foremost the camera was designed for backing up, well start by hooking it up to the reverse wire. 2nd you want it on while drivig? add a relay and a toggle switch. that way you won't lose the video capabilities while the system is on. the relay acts as a switch (which you still can use a switch to do it, but the relay let's it function like it is supposed to and will cut down on the wiring somewhat and allows you to watch the camera without turning on the reverse lights.

also grab an ignition wire, that way the camera will be on when the key is on.

first and foremost, find an installer with half a brain!

I don't know what kind of power draw you may have but attempt to tap off the ignition wire and run it all the way back, maybe 10gauge is fine. Hook it up, it will then come on when in accessory or car is started.

If you want to have control of it even further, which would be up to you, put a toggle switch on the power line u just ran althoug i wouldnt see a point in ever turning it off since it is a safety device.

a camera... like has been said, find an installer who knows what he is doing... if you want it on while driving, and reversing, doesn't that mean you want it on all the time? lol

just connect the power to the accessories line... any power cable capable of 1 amp of current will be FINE!!! 24GA!!! lol

shizzzon.... 10gauge?? thats what.... 35amps or something...
