By using 1" 1/2 clear solid acrylic rod from select products... how would I go about making this rod light up? I was told to use a led on each end... and just drill a small hole and stick the 2 L.E.D's on each end... I was also told I had to "flame" the edges smooth... How would I go about "FLAMING" the edges? thank you

use a propane blow torch. you could also polish it with a buffing wheel.

Well, when you see it bend/droop it's too late. [Wink]
I have never done anything like this, but just torch it for a short time on lower heat, let it cool off, check it out and see if it's smooth, if not, repeat with either more heat or more time.

I usually use a lower heat, and do a quick pass over what needs to be polished. Blow on it/ give it a few seconds to cool down, and then make anothe pass or two. It takes patience to do it right. But you can't leave the flame on too long or the plexi will bubble, and you'll have to let it cool, then sand it and start over. By the way, if you sand it smooth with sandpaper up to 200 grit or so, it will make the flame polishing process much quicker (ie: only need 2-3 passes w/ the torch) and less likely to bubble

you dont have to flame the edges. just drill small holes in both sides to put the led in. it will work fine. try it, if you dont like it, add more leds.

if your worried bout torching the edges, do it the manual way. start w/ a 200 grit and work your way up to a 1000 grit, then use a buffing wheel and compount to fill it. it'll get it really smooth with the fire.

although using the torch is a lot faster, it takes practice.
