Ok, since there are so many questions about noise, here's how to make an effective tool for "sniffing" radiated noise. Since we are in the digital age, tape walkmans are being discarded by many, well... hold on there bucko! If you CAREFULLY remove the tape head, unsolder the contacts to it. Now, prepare a length of car antenna wire, approximatly 1 foot long, strip off 1/4 inch from one end (that's the noise sniffer). Strip the other end to solderable condition(yes solder smaller wires to it) and connect to the connections that the tape head occupied. Put the batteries in the "New Walkman", get a set of headphones, (or even a stereo mini jack to 2-RCA, which you can connect to the system), and turn on the engine, using the bared end to listen to noise. It works!!

Wow. That is probably the best idea ive heard in awhile hehe. Only problem is you would have to go over ever inch of wiring.

It's an old trick of the trade which I got off my old Scosche Installation manual, as well as my Alpine manual, as well as my Rockford Manual...

Sort of a new style fox and hound set up. An old engineers trick since way before are time. Except they couldn't use a tape player (very nice use of one) to make the high gain 'sniffer' amp/pickup. I like the idea
