Hey, recently I noticed that my rear 6.5" earthquake DX6 speakers were distoring when I had them playing really loud, bassy music. They are just running off of my JVC KD-SX949 deck, so not too much power. So I put some
50 uF caps on them and it solved that problem. Now though once in a while there is a 'cracking' noise that comes from them. Could that be from the caps at all? it never did that before i put them on.

I believe that the reason for the distortion is your player. It can not deliver enough power to run the speakers loud.
Tha caps shouldn't make any harm but on my oppinion they are useless untill the speakers are driven by separate amplifier.

Do the speakers have any enclosure? If not try to make some enclosures. That would improve the sound and you wouldn't need so much power to drive them the same loud.

But see, they dont crack at high volume levels. It seems to go away at high volume levels, but is apparent when it is turned down to low and medium levels. I just dont know. Im waiting for a 4 channel amp so i can use the crossovers to cut it off.
