I've just decided to compete in sound quality in spring of 2000.
I'll make it to as many shows as I can on weekends. but I'm still going to be in college so this is going to be a little difficult.

I've decided to sell this equipment that I've never used before.
MB Quart RSB215 componont set, and the 2 JL Audio 12W3-d4 subs.

what do you guys think I should replace it with. I'm going to have to listen to them before I make a decision but I could use a little info.

I was thinking about replacing the white art series amps also. they'll be 2 of the new US amps Xterminator line. a 100X and a 150X
the 100X for my component set and teh 150X for my subs.

Is money an object? If not, I would do Dynaudio or Morel 6.5s or 7s in the Dynaudio case upfront and a single 10W6 ported. If money is an object, check out the JL Audio XR series coaxs and keep one of your 12s.

Just say no to MB Quart!

For the component set I'm going to have to listen to it. I know I want more than a single 10. I like a lot of bass but I want to be able to tone it down to compete.

how about 3 10w3-d6 or 3 10w6's

I really want to hear some oz audio subs
and some crystal's.

money is somewhat of an object but not that much

I wouldn't do 3 subs on the US Amp that you said you were getting. What about a single 12 in a dual ported box? That would work real well, and there are specs for the RF DVC 12 on this forum- look for ABC Box.

I'm not going with Fosgate.
It's not what I'm looking for.

How about 3 OZ audio 250L-D6
they are 10" dual 6 ohm voice coils.

and instead of the 150X, a 300X that at 4 Ohm mono it puts out 900 watts.

It has been a couple years since I have listened to OZ subs, but still they are one of my favorite subs. I'm sure Audiophyle will help you out with any OZ questions you have.

He runs the same subs but not in Dual 6.
I'd love to hear them before I buy them

I can't find a dealer in erie that sells them..
I don't know how much they even cost or where I would buy them at...

I'm not sure what kind of component set I'm going with but the new boston pros sound great I just heard they're brand new demo car and I loved the sound
they're not harsh like the old ones.
it was 6.5's, 4's and a tweeters all on top of the dash of a new beetle with the tweeters in the outside corners at a angle that made them sound great.

I love the sound of my Oz subs. They were playing the cannon shots in the 1812 overture (12hz) at about 118dB just before I totalled the car. Now, they sit in the living room, hooked up to my NAD 2200a home theatre sub amp.... waiting to be sold... but in the meantime, I'm enjoying what they can do for the home too....

STILL waiting to hear a GOOD pair of HLCD's!!

If it dont fit, force it... if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway...

I agree with winslow, about speaker choices. Especially the JL XR, I have a set and I'm quite happy with them. I have another option for subs...how about three 8W6 in a sealed box? They work excellant (IMHO) for SQ, give more output than a single 10 or 12 and take up little more room. A trio of 8W6's would work great with 150x. Anyways, it's just an idea.

Pooch: Yes, I go to college in Erie Pa.

I know what I'm going to do with my front stage.
If I end up selling my JL Audio 12W3's I'll also replace them with either them with Oz Audio, Image Dynamics, or JL w6's

Shane, are the new BA's still using the titanium dome tweets? If so, chances are they are going to be a bit nasaly and harsh. This can be easily EQ'd out, but... Anyway, have you listened to the a/d/s/ A5is components? I would also try to get a listen to the Canton components. I think PJ's carries both brands. Just dont let them talk you into a set of they're "time lense" horns... for God's sake, dont let that happen to you!

As usual, good advice from above. Dynaudio is one hell of a company!! Stereophile featured a Dynaudio SUV one year and they were running them off of McIntosh amps, need I say more?! Combine two great products and you get an SQ vehicle with some ass-kicking potential!!!

Also, look into BA's Rally and ProRally subs. Of course, JL and Oz are most excellent as well!! I've heard of some SQers running PG X-max subs! Hrm, could go with a fully-loaded McIntosh car *drool* Shane311 in his McCar!!

Oh well, US Amps is a solid amp company as well, never a bad choice. Hrm, maybe even Adcom if they're still making amps . Always liked their home audio stuff, gave you great quality at a decently affordable price! Oh, there you go, rig an Onkyo to run of 12V!! Woo hoo!! Speaking of which, one of the dudes here was selling an H/K amp, which would really be cool for SQ events!

Oh well, back to work.

Uncle Ber, the Blazer in Stereophile with the Dynaudios had Linear Power amps in it. I have the issue sitting next to me- August 1997, vol. 20 no. 8 was the issue. It had a Mac signal source though.

Dynaudios are GRREEEAAATT! So are Morels.

If the car is a SQ car a single 10 or 12 will be plenty of subbass. Troy Gorell had a single 8W6 upfront and it gave him plenty of bass. But, if you want to do some booming, then you might want more (I wouldn't, but that is me).

The Boston Pro's are still using titanium domes but I was told they were completly redesigned and there's something that block that harsh sound. I don't remember what the installer was telling me about them. I liked them though.

I don't know if PJ's carries canton's. I don't really spend much time in that shop. If they do I'll go check some out.
I've heard the a/d/s components. I like the way they sound also. I'm sticking with my MB Quart component set and a focal 6.

I was checking out some Dynaudio components and they're way out of my price range. I seen a 3-way set for about 1100.

As for amps. I'm going to stick with the old white art series for a lit while at least.

Thanks for all the information and help everyone

I'm with you on sticking with the ArtSeries.. For Comps.. Take a look at focal. It's expensive.. But worth it, every penny, just as much as Dyn (and I love dyn!)

For subs... I wouldn't go with focal, too expensive. Oz, or maybe Diamond Audio, are nice.. My suggestion.

Good luck!

I like the way MB Quarts sound. some people think their too bright but I adjusted the tweeter to -3db inside the x-overs and I cut down on some of the high bands with my eq and I think they sounded really good.

and I think when I add the Focal Drivers upfront also everything will be sounding pretty nice.

I've actually never heard any Crystals but I've been told that they were really nice.

ya maybe pooch..
