It depends on how much money you are willing to spend for the pods... I have Q forms right now.. Yes, they have a couple issues- But, in order to correct these issues and not have to cry about my empty wallet, I would have to make my own kicks.
1) If you don't install them well, they have resonance issues... Dynamat works well, put some on the back of the kick.
2) There isn't much space for a mid.. If you have an exceptionally large mid such as Eclipse or F'n Q mid, you might have trouble
3) The angles, although they work well around you legs, leave *some* things to be desired on stage height and image. They aren't bad, mind you, but a well planned out and built set of kicks will perform better.
4) They don't look as good as most professionally made pods, IMO. But, you pay half to a third of the price in some cases.
All in all, I'm happy with my investment, but it is only a step on the ladder, not the *beat all* kickpanel.

Did I ever tell you about the guy that wanted to build me a set of kicks for the deceased Honda? He wanted the car for a full week (7 days), and was only going to charge me 2600.00 for the kicks. Best part was, he was not going to make ANY guarantee on the Sq of them, or the actual labor they put into them. I said "Great... sign me up!" I havn't been back to the store since. What a jackass that guy was...

I got a offer of $500 to build a set for my car.
I'm just going to work them on the weekends when I go home.
I have the fiberglass back piece sitting in my basement and I also have the baffels cut so now I need to listen to it so I can determine the best position.
I was thinking about using like a soda pop can's sides cut into strips and hot gluing them on the baffel and to the bottom piece of fiberglass so I can support them. and then covering them in panyhose
I already have all the wiring in the trunk. I Just have to plug in my A404 and listen. What kind of music or cd would be the best to listen to while I'm doing this?

I just put in a pair of Q-Forms into my 96 Civic. It cost me $150 plus the install. I used to have a 6.5" and a 3/4" in the stock separates locations in the doors which was horrible for midbass, midrange, and for imaging. I left the 6.5's in the doors and put in a new 5.25" in the kick with now my tweeters in the kicks too which GREATLY improved the sound. The right speaker still seems to dominate more than the left though, but i find using my balance knob a slight tinge to the left seems to compensate.
Personally I think building your own kicks is risky and expensive. I'd love to hear a story from someone who had custom kicks done at a shop when they weren't satisfied to see how the shop reacted to make them better! I bet 9 times out of 10 most shops would just say "live with it".

Right now I have a set of Q-forms in my kicks and I have a Boston Acoustics Rally 5 1/4" comp set in them. The few problems I have with them are that they are very weak and the midbass and bass performance ****s!! The Q-forms resonate like crazy when turned up to a decent volume. I too have had a problem with the right side overtakeing the imaging and bringing the stage to the right. Just play with the balance and it should be fine. unless you just want to pimp out and lean to the middel of the vehicle then you will find the sweet spot about 6-12inches to the left of the headrest, then try to move that image with the balance buttons and you should be fine.
I have them installed in a Chevy Tahoe and the sound does get blocked by the passenger's feet and legs. So i would say that the only good thing about the Q-forms is the buy them to use them only as a templte to make you own pods out of fiberglass.
