Well I have a quesion. I would like some opinions on this. What I am have/am getting is this. Clarion Pro Audio 9575rz or Sony ES C90, AudioControl EQT's, 2 of the best ID horns..not the minis but full size ones. I cant remember the model# now. I do know retail was $969ish. I am also getting a single HCCA 15. The sub will be driven mono 1 ohm to a 275R HCCA. The other am I am looking at getting is a 600.4 that will give me another 75x4 for the mids. I will also be upgrading the changing system quite a bit. There are other thinks that I will be doing that dont matter for this question.....AND that question is....I am trying to decide on what mid to add with the horns. I was looking at 2 Quart 8's in the doors and thats is it. I also thought about getting a ser of 6.5's in the doors and then a single 8 or 10 built into the foor of dash up front. Suggestings? On the mid bass driver part of the system.
Also this is going in a 1996 Chevy Cavalier....

I would suggest putting the 8 inch in the kickpanel, floor panel. If I remember right there was a right up on a cavalier z24 who used horns and 8's in a CA&E a few months/years ago. he put the horns in the top of the dash.

Umm the horns are not going on top the dash there is no way with out mods. I was looking at a 8 in EACH door...and that is that OR a 61/2 in each and a single 10 or 8 in the floor what not...

I realize that putting the horns on the top of the dash will require some modification, but the image is raised and it may be worth it, from what I can remember about the car he said that he had to obviously cut the dash, but other than that it was only minor trimming of the fire wall ( if there is such a thing as minor trimming of any firewall). The reason I suggested putting the 8's in the kickpanel was to help imaging, the further your mids are from your horns the worse it will sound, and while putting the 8 in the door may not seem to be much of a difference it can be huge. It diffentely was for me when I moved my mid from the door to the kickpanel.

What kind of system are you building? I dont know how well the HCCA subs sound for SQ dude, I thought they were for serious SPL pretty much exclusively. I, personally, would go with a high quality component set, but if your heart is set on horns, do an ID 8" in the kickpanel, angled (of course) to help solidify the image. Also, I think you said you were going with an Orion amp for the sub, if so, I'd go with a 225 for the mids and horns. You'll need a really good EQ for the horns, and you may want to think about getting the DEQ-30, it is programmable, and has I think 4 memory's. I think with this system, I'd stick with all Orion, especially if your going to compete, it just looks better to have matching amps, and the 225 is a rock solid SQ amp (in my book).

If it dont fit, force it... if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway...
Well I already have the Audiocontrol EQT's...I was going to get the Orion piece but the deal I got on the Audiocontrol's was killer. I AM going to go with the horns and if I dont like I will dump them and redo. I am going with the Orion amp. I love that little 225 again for the cost I can get them for the 600.4 will work quite well. More then enough power. My motto is "Never to Much".. If I get the 600.4 I will have Orion strip and match that to the 275HCCA. About the HCCA being a SPL sub...Well It does do GREAT at that. BUT in the right box and install you can get some killer SQ from it. Might not be as acurate as others out there...BUT what I gain in SPL should more the out weigh a point or two I might loose in the listening part but with the right box I dont see that. BUT If I did that is where the extra 8 or single 10 would come in. I would not even use the sub for the listening part. Time will tell and still getting ideas.
wjones.....
At this time I dont see putting the horns on the top of the dash but things might change I will look into that. With the placement of the mids. Well I have seen both. I am leaning more and more towards the mids in the kicks.
Thanks for the ideas and keep them comming...

ProAudio, I havn't heard the hcca sub, I was assuming it was more spl oriented. Guess that assumption made me the ass... I too like the AC EQT's, I just thought that, if you hadn't already got your EQ, you could benefit a bit from the stored eq settings in the DEQ piece.
