Ok guys a few questions

I'm going to switch to active crossovers, thinking about this one...

http://www.mobileaudiocontrol.com/product.asp?Product_Id=52108&d_Id=5247&l1=5247&l2=#

Audiocontrol DQXS

Ok heres my questions

What is a good head unit to go with?

Looking at the pioneer p9, or maybe even an alpine indash flip screen with the 701 processor?

Also what am I supposed to do with my tweeters/mids etc...

I have 3 sets of wires from each side of my front stage....tweeter,midrange,and midbass...

Now if I go active what am I supposed to do?

I can't figure out how to wire it up with just 2 4 channel amps.

What would I have to do? Run an amp per speaker or something? i'm so confused [Sleepy] [Sad]

Also I'm wanting to go with a big multi band eq

Should I go with a 31 band per side?

Honestly, Audio Control has nothing that is flexible enough. Just stay away from them.

if you don't need your midrange to go below 250hz, then the P9 setup is easily the best setup out there (except for F#1--but it is very expensive).

If you are going back to a cone midrange driver, I would do the Alpine HU and 701 processor. For the Alpine HU you need something with a digital out. That means a screen or a 9861 if you want new.

You want everything to be as flexible as possible. I'm not sure if you are running passive or not--but if you are--get rid of the passives and go active on every speaker. You seemed to have the battery power to supply an extra amp [Smile] .

i think i figured it out...

Andy who makes the BEST active crossover?

What i'm thinking is I can run tweeters off of front of the 4 channel, midrange on the rear.

I'm going to buy another 4 channel and run my midbass on the front channels and when I put my sub up front I can run it bridged on the rear 2 channels good idea?

Also who builds a good eq? What companies should I look at?

Money no object in car audio--I would look at the Alpine F#1. It will cost you though.

Money no object at all--DEQX--but it is a bish to set up and get everything working. Not something I would be willing to do--unless you also had the time/money to hire someone like JK Labs to do extensive modifications to it.

Both of these units have eq/crossover built into one package.

andy,

the p9 stops at 200 i believe, but you can change the slope,,,,,set at 6 or 12db per octave it isnt much of a cut off

i prefer dome mids, so it wasnt ever a problem

^Good point. With that said, you can also look a the new Pioneer ODR stuff that is available overseas. You can have it imported, but you better bring 2 credit cards.

hehe, the only thing I don't like about the pioneer p9 is the fact that its not really expandaable at all

No mp3 player, no ipod add ons, etc etc...which I would like since its a daily driver.

I was looking at maybe an Alpine IVA 200 with 701 processor? Molding the 200 in the dash and going from there.

Also I like the eclipse 7100, adjustable crossover points and up to a 36db/oct slope on each frequency. Time alignment and add ons for days.

..btw I'm starting to really like laying out and planning a setup for sq lol

Do the Alpine. It is much more flexible than the Eclipse piece. Cost wise it is hard to beat. At dealer cost you are looking at less than a grand for the pair.

Best is Alpine F#1 stuff. Works really well for a cheap price is the W200/701 combo.

I use the w200/701 combo and have for two years. Even at dealer cost I wasn't going to pay the cost for F#1 stuff.

You can go aux into the Pioneer if you want to add an ipod or mp3 player. I think the Pioneer sounds better than the Alpine gear.

Changer controls, yes. Can add DVD changer to watch movies...pretty sure that's how Steve Cornell had the Pioneer set up in his old Impala.

The owner's manual should be online if you want to double check the DVD-changer thing, but I could have sworn that's how Steve had his. And the IPod input is just an IP-Bus cable to RCA adapter.

thanks for the advice winslow i really appreciate it!

I'm just curious though, whats the main difference with the p9 or 701 over the eclipse 7100? If i was to add a 31 band eq per channel?

Just seems like the Eclipse would be alot more cost effective if i did it that way.
