I have a 2005 toyota highlander with a 100 amp alternator. will that be enough to power the colossus xx or do I need a up grade. I haven't got it hook up yet but this is going to be a daily driven car. the amp is going to power 2 12" alpine type x in a sealed box.

I had a Orion 1200D and a Orion 4004 running off an 85 amp alt in my xB and it was no where near enough. I upgraded to an Iraggi alt and it made all the difference in the world. My install was solid with an Optima up front and 1/0 going to the rear. I believe that a Colossus draws more current alone than both of my amps did together.

I'd install it first, take some voltage readings and see if you need something else. I wouldn't spend money until I had to.

should I have my car on when testing for voltage? I never done this on a car audio system before.

I recently pull this this system out of my 97 mitsubishi eclipse. what I had to power the system was a stock alternator, yellow top batt and a soundstream 5 farad cap. that set up was can't handle the amp. so I took the amp out with in a week. I had no knowledge about this amp be for I bought it. If I knew that this amp requires a lot current to run it I would of never bought it.

Measure with the car running---because when the car is off, the alternator won't help anyway. Not sure what I was thinking above.

Get it installed in your vehicle and then take measurements. That will tell you if you need anything and if you do---it will tell you how much you have to do. If you guess before hand you have two routes. One is overkill--which isn't happening for $400 and the other is likely going to be insufficient.

The colossus can pull anywhere from 300amps to over 450 at 1 ohm. Bigger alt highly recomended, a couple of extra batteries wouldnt hurt.

sure you can run it off the altenator. are you going to get full power out of, NO. i had mine running @ 2ohm using the OEM alternator, and it was okay, but if you plan on pushing 3000watts, you're not likely to be getting it. my buddy had (2) ppi1400's in hios saturn on the OEM alt. and the voltage drop was below 11v, not good.

biggest cause of amp failure is an insufficient power supply and voltage drop
