How would a set of 5 1/4" components in kickpanels and a set of 6 1/2" components in the front doors sound. I have a 02 acura tl and im looking for something loud and clear. I'll have about 800watts total for the 2 component sets and i've been looking at the image dynamics cs1.5 and cs1.6. Does this sound like it will be a nice setup?

i wouldnt see why not, should sound good...tho most people will tell you not to mix driver sizes if theyre playing the same frequencies

It will be loud and be clear...but probably not technically "correct."

If you want loud and sound good, go for it.

I might would only do 1 tweeter at first though.

i could do both 6.5's or both 5.25's. whichever will sound better really. for the kickpanels i'm getting q-forms. are these bad? should i use some sort of sound dampening inside them? also if i do only use tweeters for one set of components, should i hook up the crossover any differently, and would it be better to use the tweeters with the kickpanels or just mount them in the doors?

While you're at it you might as well just do a 3-way set!!! You will get your dedicated midbass driver built for said purpose. You will get a midrange that will give you the detail. Of course the tweeter will be able to be crossed over a bit higher as opposed to mixing it with just that 6.5. Something to think about.

^^^^^^

yup, put the 6 1/2 in the doors for midbass and the 5 1/4 and tweeter in the kicks for mid and highs. And I always, sound deaden the hell out of Q-form kick panels. And I will try my best to deaden and seal the doors to get the most midbass, as I can. So yeah make a 3-way setup out of them.

That is what I am gonna do in my car. I am gonna use Kicker speakers though, the KS lineup.

In my opinion 6.5's have better midbass, and their 5.25. counterparts have a fuller midrange. Maybe there are some magic 6.5's out there that can do both.A 3 way setup would be best if you can get the time alignment right.

I also agree that if you are going to have two drivers playing the same frequency range they should be identical (size and) for best sq.

Good 6" drivers in the doors can sound amazing! Just remember that rigidity is more important than damping! Make that mount solid and don't put anything soft (sound damping material, sealant, etc) between the baffle and the driver. Any vibration is lost energy.

I run Boston Acoustic 3-way in my '83 s10 and Mb Quart 3-way in my '93 camaro. Both use the Q-logic kick panels. I like them. Compared to other sq systems I've heard with custom enclosues for there components its not even close. But I definately like recommend them any novice.

I think the MB Quarts are the PSD316. They were both about $800 retail a couple of years ago.

If you use q-forms you will have to use undercoating or rhino lining to deaden and strengthen them. I had some in an 01 cavi and they sounded alright after I deadened them.
