As some of you know the local shop I work at sells Focal, Boston Acoustics, JL, McIntosh, and Alpine. I've been wanting to dive into SQ for a while now. I'm not going to be competing yet but I'm going to use my old 1997 F150 to experiment with. I'm going to tell you guys what I'm thinking for the setup and see what you all think. This system will be budget oriented in some respects but still rather costly.
My plan is to do the Focal 4'' and tweeter in the A-pillar(100KP set) and the 6''(K2P) midbass in the doors. I plan to bi-amp them with two McIntosh MCC302's(150x2@4ohm).
My 1997 F150 has 3 doors not 4 like the newer models so I plan to mold a Focal 33V2 or 27KX into that side panel that doesn't open and use the McIntosh MCC301M on it.
This setup is for my daily driver, not to necessarily compete with, however I plan to use the equipment in my new vehicle whenever I get one with a possible upgrade to the Utopia Be's. These are just some ideas I'm throwing around right now. The owners of the shop I work for offered to help me out if I run something that we can sell and build something that plays music and sounds good. I think I'm going to take them up on the offer

Move the midbass to the kickpanel. Cut the floor and vent it to the outside. Huge difference in getting the midbass to blend in with the mids/tweets between those two locations.
Also, you will want to go all active with a set up like that. You need to be able to full control every single speaker. You work for an Alpine dealer, so the PXA-701 should be in your setup.
The mid/tweet in the apillar can work, but it will only image well from one seat. The other seat will be horrible.
Ask Rick Sellers about my truck. It has a very similar set up to what you are describing.

Oh yea, subwoofer---I would go with the center console with it. I've never heard a truck with a sub behind the seats that you couldn't point directly to the subwoofer. It always pulls to the back.

Yeah like you know anything about those trucks...

thanks for the input. I definitely intend to get the 701 processor. I'm waiting to see what this imprint processor is going to be about first if they ever release it. Hoping I can get both of them to work. What suggestion would you make to get the sound good in either position?
This truck is going to be used as a learning experience for me with SQ. I can hack things up, try different things, and learn a lot. Then the new vehicle may be used for comps after I've learned a little more

there is a ton of room in those kicks.just need to do some cutting...and if you get dealer accom...then you really need to look into the Be 3w2...play your cards right...talk to your rep and get a hook up and play the game

Randy's right, there is a ton of room in the kicks.
here are the kicks with the panel removed:
Ebrke gone:
wiring cleared out.
Passenger side is easier.
There is a pretty big hole above that hole that you will need to seal off, and then you have the boot where the wires go into the door. Seal that off as best you can. You are good to go then.

If you want imaging from both seats you have to have pathlengths. So ditch any idea of apillar mounted midrange drivers.
I would probably go straight 2 way set up if I were going for both seats. A really good midbass/midrange driver (Alpine F#1 Revelator drivers, Focal may have something--I'm not real familiar with them.). Put them in the kickpanel and play with tweeter position--though they would probably end up in the kick also.
I would also look at extending the seat rails to get the seats further back.
You will also find that you may need a dash mat, and it helped me a lot to use something soft (I use towels cause I'm ghetto like that ) to raise up the passenger side of the dash to get it remotely similar to the big ass hump on the driver's side).
the door locations suck ass. Not only in their location to the listeners, but because half the speaker is behind the hard plastic and not even behind the grill. The window rail is right there so you can't move it over anymore to get the speaker behind the grill. So your midbass would be firing directly into hard plastic. Rattles, and muffled sound.
the only way I've seen the above fixed is to move the speaker down to the very bottom of the door where they map pocket is. Then rebuild the entire door panel. the guy who did it, did a great job and it will look incredible when finished.
My apillars from the driver's side:
On the door rattles--this is how much $hit was in my doors trying to stop door rattles (those are 9" deflex pads)--and this doesn't count the over 40 square feet of deadener on each door and the modeling clay that is in it.

Is imaging for both seats important or do they only judge in the driver seat. I've never judged SQ or really even read through all the rules. You guys are being a huge help already! Keep it coming!

As far as I know, only Wayne can do the name change. I'll email him and see if he can do it. Though it would probably be easier to just reregister.
Judging depends on the organization and class.
MECA: All 1 seat judging--driver's seat
IASCA: Rookie, Amateur Street and Semi-Pro street all one seat. Pro Street and all ultimate classes are two seats.
USACi--no clue.
You would only qualify for Pro Street, Pro Ultimate and Expert in IASCA--so no matter what in that organization you are two seats.

I dont have the funding for the Focal Be's. I wish I did but right now I can't. I'm looking at doing 100KP's with the 165KBE. I was strongly considering the McIntosh amps but Nick from Focal is trying to get me to run Steg. What do you guys think?
The new JBL processor also came strongly recommended as well as doing a center and rear speakers to take full advantage of the processors ability?
