I would like to get some help in finding some Comp. Sets centered around SQ. I'm not going to be doing SQ comps so they just need to be able to play highs without distortion. Highs are what have always distorted with my previous speakers. I listen to Christian music and the music has strong Vocals and Instruments so I need some components that can cut the cheese. I wouldn't want to spend much more than about $130ish on a set. But lower costing sets are a plus. I would greatly appreciate everyones feedback. I posted the same topic on ROE but didn't really get much help. Thanks in advance.

I would maybe try to find a componet set of Polk Audio DB drive. there very nice. I had a set and they sounded very chrisp! Dont forget that sometimes you need to have the right eq settings and crossovers so you dont get the distortion. Every tweeter can only take so much before start to crack. Thats where the 200 dollar componet crossovers come in and thats way out of price range. I can also look some stuff up for you. Ive had good luck with the Hifonics Atlas line and the new line is even better. for around 100 bucks. Ptgoboom@hotmial.com 248 802 1534 Jason
Give me a shout and I;ll see what I can get for you?

Well I tried tweaking the settings on my HU but I think part of the reason is that I need to amp the speakers. Doesn't matter what I do to EQ it still doesn't satisfy my ears. I thought about higher end comp sets but if I were to get them then I would have to get one set at a time. Also, would I need two sets of comp? Like I could just do one set up front and just run some mid bass in my back doors? Would this be a bad idea? Yeah if you would like to look around for me that would be great. I have been looking around and I have found some pretty good stuff but I was just looking for some more guidance from some seniors in the car audio scene.

Well I asumed you were running a amplifier. That is what you need first. You will get distortion in anything you put in there if your running it off the radio. Not good. More power will give you a more chrisp sound and more difined music. Thats been your problem the entire time. Even if your radio is rated 50x4 it probley does about 25x4 if that. The speakers are wanting more power. Even with stock speakers when you put a amp on them they sound way better as also a new stereo because it has more than the 7 watts from the stock one.
I would start off with a nice 4 channel amplifier first. The Crunch PZI100.4 I think is the model number is Awesome! Ive sold 4 of them already plus I have its big brother and for the money you cant go wrong!
I would get you a amp fist then worry about componets second. Anything else is a waste of time and money.
Then get your componets then get maybe some midbasses for the rear doors.
What kinda car is it anyways?

Yeah I pretty much figured out that my speakers sounded bad because they weren't amped. I am def going to amp next speakers and wont run the speakers until I get an amp for them. I have a 90' Geo Prizm Hatch. I will be running an Autotek 1400.1 to a 15" FiQ so I wanted some nice clean highs to compliment everything else. I was thinking these speakers right here at first http://www.crutchfield.com/S-YMePinMYmyX/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?I=107db650&wm=cl powered off of an Autotek 75.4. I just wasn't sure if I would get clean highs and mids? So I began to look into some component sets. But said speakers have awsome reviews and I think I will go ahead and try them and if I don't like them then I could upgrade down the road. Do you or anyone else have any comments, suggestions, feedback? Thanks for the help
Kurt
Edit: I also have a BNIB set of Kicker SSMB6 mids that I was hoping to run with this next setup. If I were to get the Polk speakers I posted a link to would I be better off using the mids up front or back? I really don't think I have room for them in the back so the front would be pretty much the only option.

I was planning on powering them with an Autotek MM 75.4, do you think that would be sufficient? They are rated at 60rms and the amp is 75rms and is an SQ amp so I believe it would match up with them just right. It will be a little down the line before I can afford them, but I will definitely post a review on them when I get everything installed! Thanks for the feedback.

One thing I head over and over is that for the most part putting midbass drivers in your backseats dont help out too much. Your the driver, your the one who listens to the music 99% of the time, so set your stage up to make your listening experience that much better. So maybe run 2 sets of comps in the front, door and kick.

Hmmm...Yeah I don't usually haul people around and when I do I don't blare the system. I hate blareing music with others in the car because they'll try and talk over it and stuff. So when peeps are in my car the system's usually only up enough to hear if even that loud. I'll defitely look more into this matter and maybe do some testing. I have a pair of mid bass 6.75's and hopefully I'll be able to buy some speakers and an amp here pretty soon and then I'll begin to test out different setups. My first setup that I'd like to exeriment with is a mid bass in each door along with some 6.5 two ways...Time will tell what I end up doing...
