I heard some Hertz drivers recently. Very nice stuff. I wish they made a real 3 way set without that ribbon midrange, but the two way set is very nice.

its all about tuning, you can make anything sound good....I dont like passive crossovers,,,,if you use active it changes everything. I prefer drivers with wide dispersion, flat on and off axis response, and wide bandwidths. I like the Diamond d6s alot, with active x-overs,,,,for the price they are hard to beat. I have Lotus tweets in my MB, and they are close to the same thing as the diamond/lpg/JL, but have a tuning chamber that lowers their FS and makes them play lower. I used them 7k and up, so I didnt even need that low end response.
Focal always makes nice stuff. I never liked the sound that much of a soft dome tweeter, maybe if you are going to use the passives and not tune it, but to me a metal dome always worked better.

Ever heard of RS Audio out of Berlin Germany? Pretty good stuff. Resonant chamber on the silk dome tweeter 700 Hz resonant frequency, high quality Mundorf cap on the tweet 6dB/octave and a single Mundorf cap and coil in parallel on the mid. Very dynamic with an excellent stage. These are the only passive crossovers I would actually use and not through in the round file cabinet. The tweeter can be separated from the mid with excellent results. Mids in the doors and tweets in the A-pillar.
