I just bought a 2003 Volkswagon Jetta TDI and am looking for some ideas to build a killer SQ system in it with a budget of about $10k. This will be my daily driver with over an hour drive to work one way. I really like the system I have in my truck but I want something even better.
I was thinking 3 tens or 2 12s in the trunk. I was looking at the IDmax line but I currently have 2 10w6v2 and like them, are there any other really high end SQ subs out there? For the fronts I have been looking at Focal, Dyn, Rainbow and several other 3-way sytems but I don't know which I like best, any suggetions?
I listen to rock and metal mostly but I also listen to a little rap, symphany, opera, anything but country!
As for amps I currently have a JL 1000/1 and a 450/4 which I like but I was looking at the Zapco Competition line and DCReference line and also some of the ARC audio stuff as well. Anyone have any other suggestions for some high end SQ amps.
I was looking at the Alpine DVA-9861 or the DVA-9965 for the Head Unit and the PXA-H701 for the processor and setup a 5.1 system.
Any way thanks to anyone that offers suggestions.

Keep your amps and subs and just add to them what you need. That equipment is nice. You won't gain anything besides aesthetics by switching to different amps, just add more power. The subs, what you have will work fine, just add another sub.

Get an h701 and headunit that controls it. Then buy raw drivers for the front stage and spend the rest on install unless you are doing it yourself. That would be the most efficient use of your $$ IMO.

If it where me:

Head Unit: Eclipse CD7000

This has all of your cross overs to go active and time alignment built right in. It also has a 7 band EQ and spectrum analyzer.

EQ: Kicker KQ30 30 Band

Sorta cheap (as far as good 30band EQ's go) and effective.

Front Stage: Diamond Audio D9 7" Mid & 1" Tweeter.

Ditch the Xover and stick with active and your head unit.

Front Stage Amplifier:

USamps AX TU300c - Tweeters
USamps AX TU1000c - Mids

Why? That is just sexy and you have the money for it in your budget.

Sub: 2 Stereo Integrity SI Magnum D2 12's

Very nice drivers, clean and classic look goes with the tubes.

Sub Amp: AX 3000DE

2000w@2ohm means each mag will be getting what they deserve and it will match your tubes.

The rest is installation and tuning.

But that is just me. [Smile]

If I had the money...there is no way in hell I would use the crossovers in the radio.

Buy yourself an Alpine H701 combo or a couple RF 360.2s.

^But they are no where close to being as flexible as the 701.

I agree with Eastcoast. Spend the money on speakers and the install.

Can it hold mulitple presets? Do slope adjustments from 6-30dB/octave...and level adjustments in factions of a decimal?

And those processors will allow you to keep long runs of multiple RCA cables to a minimum.

And the Alpine headunit he is using will let him go toslink out of it and digital into the processor, further increasing SQ potential and lowering any possiblitly for noise induction.

And...it's not a POS Eclipse that will break on you, cause disk read errors, and turn on/oof pops.

But hey, that's just me as an old Eclipse dealer and SQ competitior.

cbfryman2 i have a questian, if you have the capabilities to use the threeway output inside the eclipse headunit..how would you integrate the eq into that..considering its a stereo input? You would lose four channels of rca output capability and if you crossed over the eq signal, you would lose fullrange capabilities too.

The eclipse 7000 is a great deck for those on a simplicity kick, it will allow for most applications of tuning however as eastcoast and a few others have said there aint nothing like external processing..however there is one exception

and it is the headunit in one of my dream sq systems which is as follows

Clarion drz9255 with six disk changer..yeah guys i like my variety.

Helix comps amps, i dont know the models off hand but i wanna say a1 mono a pair of a2 two channels and an a4 if thats how they are still numbered.

a1 on a single stereo integrity magnum d2 thats seconded highly reguarded
first a2 on a pair of morel eight midbasses, second a2 on morel mids, two channels of the a4 on morel supremo tweets and the last two channels on a pair of morel integra 5.25 mids for rear ambience.

Thats what i'd do and you've only spend aprox 4500 on equipment..sink the rest into properly deading the doors and floor/trunk/hell everywhere, as well as creating proper mounting points for all speakers be they door pods or kick pannels.

Thank you for all the input.
I am doing all of the install myself. I plan on removing the entire interior and dynamating the whole car, which is what I did to my truck. I will be using an Alpine head unit with the H701.

I just bought the 701 (although it's not installed yet)and the W200 HU.When I was researching what HU to get I was pushed towards the W200 for a couple reasons. I'm told it has a digital out which enables us to send the signal to the processor without converting it twice (SQ!). I've also been told that the W200 screen makes it relatively easy to control the H701.The W200 is a double din unit.I like the fact that it's much stronger (to the touch) than the other single din units that have a screen that "folds" out.I can't wait to get this stuff into the car! Go to CN Sounds, drop off car...

Wait for call, go pick-up, write check.

You have a big enough budget to have professional work done. Get this done right, and learn from the pro's...

LOL

As winslow merely started to detail, the eclipse is seriously outgunned by the 701.

701 + Control
More of the same amps
More of the same subs
Raw drivers (give us more details of the car we can help you with that)
That will leave you with a good chunk of change for a nice install. Shop around for a good shop to do it like you would for any tangible item.

Could you tell me a little more about "raw drivers"? Do you just mean buying separates... separately? Off-brand speakers?

Yes, you have a built in crossover now, so you don't need to buy prepackaged sets anymore, you can mix and match your own...

EXT SERIES I KNOW THERE A DIST IN CANADA CALLED MODZ DIST THE USA DIST WAS ON THE EAST COAST VERY GOOD FOR THE MONEY WITH THERE EXT 12 IN SUB ALSO . MAKE SURE YOU USE GOOD SOUND DEADING SUCH AS CASCADE AUDIO
AND OF COURSE GOOD CABLE AND RCAS AND BATTERIES TO POWER YOUR SYSTEM NO CHEAP JUNK GET LIKE A KINETIK KHC-2400 OR 2000. HU PIONEER I THINK R-1 OR 30 OCTAVE EQS YOU CAN GO WITH ALTO MOBILE OR FIND A OLD LANZAR OPTI 30 OR OLD DEQ-1 FROM ORION OR GO TO HARRISON LABS HE MAKES A GOOD 1 IT IS ALL SLIDE OR OLD ZAPCO UNIT
10 K SOUND LIKE ALOT BUT ADD UP QUICKLY

15's in sq? for sq i think smaller subs are better. there faster and tighter.2-10's would be good with 6.5 midbass and seprate tweeters jetta's use same size speakers all around right?my boy's jetta did but i don't remember what year that was.

Some of the greatest SQ cars in history have used 15" or larger subs.

The whole "large speakers are slower" line is a bunch of BS.

I'm confused EastCoast and Winslow... I've been told over and over to go with 2-10's for SQ vs. a single 13,14,or 15. I'm in the process of going all-out SQ in my 98 Prelude. Planning on 2 10W7's (I've already got 1 in the car) with 2 1000/1's to power 'em. ????????
I'm real curious what you two think would be the absolute best SQ for the sub-bass in this aplication.Oh yeah-I know I'm conflicting myself a little but I do like it to hit HARD when I want it to. Martin
