Which of these would be best suited for SQ and why?? (any sub from these companies)

Image Dynamic
Diamond Audio
Hifonics
Kicker
Eclipse
MB Quart
Digital Designs (only the 1000, 2500, or 3500 series)

I was looking at 8" or 10" subs but after reading a post i saw earlier, a 12" sub is better suited for the 20-50hz range and is easier for the sub to accurately reproduce then a 10" of smaller.

Thanks for your time.

The Image Dynamics IDMax is an incredible sub. Since you are on Team Maxxsonics, they would probably appreciate you using a HiFonics or MB Quart sub though.

I have an Image Dynamics ID 12 (the bottom line) and you are welcome to listen to it in Hazel Green, AL at the MECA show (I saw on the MECA forum that you will be attending).

In MECA the CD doesn't have a lot of bass. They use Grandma's Hands (the foottap), Trac 17, and a couple other small pieces on that CD to test for bass. So you need a sub with some cone area. It is going to be hard to reproduce the foottap on Grandma's hands accurately and not make spanish harlem boom with a small cone sub. You need output for both of those. So go as big as you can with as much power as you can.

I dunno if Quart still has them, but those old Quart PWD12s (I think that was the model) were pretty darned killer subs.

PWD 304. They changed them a bit...to the PWE which is a good sounding sub. The PWD's can still be found through a simple search.

The 3 guys that I expected to answer. Thank you for your input and thoughts. Maxxsonics would like me to run what they have for equipment, but I dont really need to run my vehical 100% maxxsonics gear. The only thing that will not be maxxsonics in my truck will be the sub. Probably buy a sub from Image.

Andy, now that you say run the biggest i can get with the most power i can.......i dunno if i wanna do that as I do have a tendancy to rail on the sub daily. I will most likely be at the show provided the roads arent too horribly hard to navigate on. Up here in chicago we have streets that connect like blocks, down there your all on country like roads that have very little straights (mostly curved roads of some type). Looking forward to going, maybe I can get some pointers from you before the show on how to increase my score some, provided your not in the same class.

We are in the same class, but that doesn't matter. Anything I can do to help, I will. If you have a 12" in your vehicle now (or you do for the show), I can bring an extra ID12 (dual 4) for you to try out.

There should be 4 people in our class that day. Me, you, Richard (world champion last year) and Paul. David is the judge and he is very good and will also help you out. Show will probably have about 8 or so SQ competitiors, so it will be small enough that you can listen to all the vehicles and ask as many questions as you want. The entire Alabama crew (and Aaron from TN) are good people and we all help each other out.

Of the 8-9 people that are always there,

I have an ID 12"
Richard has an Arc Audio 12"
Paul has JL Audio 8w3's up front (one in each door)
Aaron has a polk audio 10" (but he hasn't got the foot tap down yet---he will though)
Ricky has dual JL 10w3's
Scott has 2 or 3 MB Quart 12" subs (may be 10's, but I believe they are 12's)
David has 1 Kicker L7 12"
Kirk has dual 12" subs, but I'm not sure which ones (possibly Seas Lotus)
Chris has 1 13" Focal sub
Karter has a 12" Peerless sub
Jeff is an all Sony sponsored vehicle and has Sony 12" (3 or 4 of them).

Power wise, all except Paul and maybe Aaron everyone has at or over 1000 watts on their subwoofer.

Well, I have a 12" Crunch Blackmaxx SVC 4ohm sub but I dont like how it sounds in a ported box and im almost too scared to put it in a sealed box. I also need to find an amp for the sub. Andy, you have a PM.

The only reason why focal is not in my list of subs is because no one in my area carries the product, let alone even hear about them.

This is just my 2 cents, but Id recommend checking out Diamond Audio. Their amps are top-notch and their speakers are some of the cleanest I've heard (and they can get VERY loud too!) I have the D6 600.4 amp and its one of the cleanest amps I've ever heard, and has never cut out on me. Also, I use a 12 inch diamond sub in my home theater (3 cubes, tuned in the low 30s) and its very clean and strong.

I thought I was the only one with an ID 12. I have the single 8-ohm one from back in the day. Its a pretty darn good sounding sub and I'm glad to see that some of you established guys are running them.

Since your on Team Maxxsonics and you listed Hifonics as one of the options, why not check out their Atlas subs as I hear their pretty proud of the SQ on em.

(Only comes in square 12" though)

Call Car Audio & Electronics magazine and ask Chris Yato or Casey Thorson which sub they would choose. Last year they did a 10" subwoofer comparison that had the 10W6v2, IDMax 10" and some RF 310 sub thrown in there for whatever reason against a DD 3510. If you read it, you'll catch on that what they said about it and what the numbers were at the end don't match. Call them and see what THEY say.

I was just about to ask why nobody considers the JL W6 or W7 a good SQ sub.....I've been very happy with my 10W7, but I haven't been exposed to too many SQ subs to compare it to. Martin
