I have heard so many good things about the Seas Excel line that I am going to cough up a few extra bucks and try the 7's out. I wanted to try the Dayton Refs, but I think the extra money will be well worth it.

So I do have a couple of questions...

1. What tweeter should I pair them with between the 2(or any suggestions in the same price range), the Hiquphon OWI or Seas Excel T25CF 001?

2. Would Zalytron build me a crossover for my setup? (if not how might I go about buying one)

3. Do I have enough power to get loud with Diamond D5300.4 running bridged @ 4 ohms with 2x150? (being that the speakers are 8ohms, and the sensitivity of the woofer is only 86.5db, and tweet 90db, I would only be seeing 2x75 correct?)

I would have to get a new amp to go active wouldn't I? I was planning on running the Diamond @ 4 ohms bridged with 2x150. If I used the amp at 4 ohms it only pushes 37.5x4. And using 8 ohms speakers, it would drop the power in half, correct?

I just read a thread that the Excels in a door are not a good idea because of moisture.

Is this true?

If the Excels are ok for in door application, what do you think of pairing the Lotus reference tweet with the excel for easier installation options? Are they a good match?

Come on guys you know your stuff, and I need the help.

I just don't have the necessary experience with Seas to help. I know Winslow owns the entire line up. Hopefully he will swing through here.

I have heard a vehicle that had Lotus in the doors and Lotus Tweets in the dash. Frikken incredible. With a factory HU and Zapco amps (that's it), he is scoring in the high 80's out of 100 in MECA shows. That is up there with the Master class vehicles and he is in Stock.

I would think the Lotus would be better suited for my setup, but $750.00 is a chunk of change. Does anybody have a hook up?

If you need the passive it would be worth it to just get the lotus set

www.mobilesq.com

Ask if they have any returns or blemished items to let go. Your tweeter would be fine with 37 watts but not the mid.

Or it may even be cheaper for you just to invest in another amp and get the excels. There is a home audio version of that ref tweeter that is quite a bit cheaper.

Ponder your decision though, be cautious... seriously. Once you hear these it can be hard to listen to anything else.

They are the same drivers, one is just made for the car. Different impedance, some different specs but same sound. I ran the home versions as they were cheaper and had a 5.5" which is what I wanted. In retrospect, the 4.5" would have made my life a lot easier.

I think I just snagged a pair of the Lotus woofers for a great deal from mobilesq.com. Just waiting for another response from the place.

Now since I am 99.9% positive that I will be getting the Lotus setup, I have a few questions.

1. I really want to go active, but I already have my amp. This may sound really stupid, but if I got the crossovers for the Lotus setup as well (there are 4 of them, 2 for mids, 2 for tweets) I couldn't run all 4 cross off of 2 channels? Right? A Positive and negative to both tweet crossovers, and a positive and negative to both mid crossovers? I am sure the impedance would be wacky, right?

2. I am willing to change my amp, only if I have to. If the above question cannot be done.
The D3400.4 puts out decent power, and once again I may sound dumb, but I cannot use these speakers at 2 ohms right?) What kind of power and what amplifier would you recommend. Keep in mind I want to keep it under $250, if possible.

Sorry for the dumb ass post, I just don't know all of the aspects of impedance.

1. The lowpass cross has a bypass terminal that sends straignt signal to the tweet crossover if you want to run them w/two channels. This would give you a 4 ohm nominal impedance.

2. You cannot make the speakers 2 ohm w/out wiring an extra pair paralell. If you bridge your amp to be a 2 channel however, the channels share the ohm load, so each side sees 2 ohm. If you don't need the amp for anything else, and you are running the passives, I would bridge it to get maximum power.

p.s. what do you have for EQ/crossover capability?

Which size comps are you getting?

If your deck has active x-over capability I would opt to use that instead of the passives. 75 watts for the mid will be fine, and of course it will be fine for the tweeter. You will have greater control over the drivers and how they interact in your vehicle/install.

I will be getting the 6.5's.

My deck does have very good XO capabilities.

And you are saying that by running both tweets to one channel and both mids to a channel when my amp is bridged @ 4 ohms, I will be receiving 75w per speaker (each side sees 2 ohms), and everything will work out fine?

I really don't want to drop the money on the passives, if I don't have to.

If you use the passives, I would bridge the amp. You will now have 2 channels, one you will use for left, the other for right. You will run the left channel to your mid crossover which is connected to the mid, and you would use the bypass output on that crossover to connect to the tweeter crossover which will be connected to the tweeter. This will deliver 150 watts to each side.

What I would do though is skip the passives, and use the amp as a 4 channel. Connect each channel to a speaker, left and right accordingly. Your deck gives you the option to low pass filter the mid with selectable slopes and high pass filter the tweeter w/selectable slopes. You could use the amps HPF to cross the mids over wherever you want, circa 80hz. The acoustical point on the passives (I think) for the mid is 2200 12db per octabe to avoid the resonance at 4500hz. I believe the tweeter picks up at the same point. This will give you the option to play w/crossover points and slopes so that you can tune the set to work and sound best for your car, and save you some cash.

My amp only pushes 37.5w per channel @ 4 ohms.
Thats why I wanted to know what amp you might suggest, in a good price range. I would think that 75 per speaker would be adequate.

Hey Eastcoast, I just ordered the Lotus set and bought an old school Audio Art 70.2 in great condition to run the tweets. So I will have a dedicated amp for the mids and the tweets. I am pretty excited, and wanted to say thanks for your help. You were very inciteful and elemental in my decision.
