I think number one is to have the mids AND midbass very close to "on axis". Number two would be to have them placed for the best time alignment possible.

Oh yeah, what fast service, great new topic!

There really is no "rule" for sound quality. You need the right car, the right equipment for that car, and the right install for that right equipment for that right car. Experimentation is key here. You can go on some general assumptions. As above, you want the pathlengths from the left and right channels as close to equal as is humanly possible. Kick panels, IMO, work best for this. You never want to mount your tweets more than about 12" from your mids, or you'll be able to distinguish the sounds coming from them, and that is not good. Also, try to get as much bass up front as is possible, using subs, or mids that play really low. Use high end component speakers. Focal, a/d/s/, Morel, Dynaudio, ScanSpeak are all good SQ drivers. My favorite are a/d/s/, but thats just me. Best of luck to you. SQ is all subjective. I love the way my car sounds, but you may hate it. Just make it sound good to you, then have a couple of women listen to it, they'll tell you whats wrong with it.

STILL waiting to hear a GOOD pair of HLCD's!!

If it dont fit, force it... if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway...

that don't mount your tweeters more than 12" from your mids is not always correct is it, look at John Pitts car the winner of the expert 600+ finals his mids are mounted in the kickpanels and his tweeters are in the a-pillars. I do agree that the best thing is experment as much as possible, you never know what speakers or setup will work best with the interior, dash, center console or other items in the car. No one can tell you you have to do the work yourself, that is what makes it fun.
