I just went to a nice electronic shop. I was looking to by an EQ, but I also wanted to sample some subs. I listened to a JL w3, RF XLC (the same as what I got), and a RF DVC (the regular one not the power version). I realized that the W3 did "sound" better than the XLC like everyone on here said, but the RF DVC sounded much nicer than the W3! I felt that it had a warmer smoother sound while the W3 sounded more shall I say synthetic.

My problem: I have an RF power 500a2 which pushes 250 watts per channel into 2ohm stereo (or 500 watts into 4ohms mono). The JL's are rated for 250 rms, which would be ideal, but the RF DVC's reqire 400 watts RMS.

Can I still get two 12 RF DVC's and run them off my amp dispite the power handling issue?

Yeah, more power would be better, but you should be just fine. And the RF amp should be putting out a little more than 250 a channel isn't it? What's the BC say?

The amp should be fine, but more power is always good. Before Dukk can say it, port those DVCs! Those things love a 2-2 1/4 ported cubic foot box. I bet would kill in the ABC box if you had space. The DVCs come alive in ported boxes.

Hmm ported box for dvc's huh?? well maybe that will be my next upgrade. Anyway jl subs are nice but I like the sound of paper woofers, like you said they are much warmer
(imo) I got three dvc 10's being pushed by a 50.1 @ 1ohm. All I can say is great bass!!! cant wait to try my first idbl just to see what the system will do

Dark... use the one you think sounds the best. Dont worry about how much it costs, especially if it's cheaper than the others. The thing that matters most is YOUR happiness. That goes for life in general, not just car audio... Sorry for getting philosophical...

Yah they do good sealed, but MAN, those things are outstanding ported.

Built a box for a single DVC 10 ported that slammed two Kicker Comp 12s. The olny problem is the ported boxes for the DVCs are a little larger than average- 2 cubes for a 12...

DAMN....Have I just been into this for way too long or is it not at all unreasonable for a 2 cubic foot PORTED box for a 12..? I remember when 1.5 sealed for a 12 was MICROSCOPIC! And ported even larger.....hmmm....

Got Bass?

Maybe I should add, "kind of large for my car."

Two cubes sealed for 12s used to be my general rule of thumb, I guess now it would be 2 cubes ported.
