I'm sure someone has already done this, but here is my idea. At the dash level place three speakers facing directly toward the rear of the car. One on the far left(left of the steering wheel), one at center dash(maybe right above the CD player), and one at far right. The speakers at far left and right will both play left channel, and the one in the middle will play right channel.

The good thing about this setup is that the pathlength differences will be nil. The problem is that the sound from the far right speaker interferes with the sound from the center speaker (which is playing right channel). Perhaps this problem can be corrected, however. Picture a circuit that looks at the left channel information, reverses its polarity, and then is delayed by the amount of pathlength difference as seen from the listener to the center(right channel)and the listener to the opposite (interfering) left channel. This information would then be added to the center speaker(right channel) information.

The result will be total cancellation of the interfering information. Both the driver and passenger will wind up with zero pathlength differences and the left and right channels originating from near-dash level.

I've seen something similar done in a '88 Sunbird. You know, the one with the radio ctrl. in the centre of the dash and the cassette player further down. Where the control unit used to be, the installer put in 2 3" midrange speakers facing each other and I believe he ran them out of phase. I'll have to check with him to be sure. This was almost 10 years ago, so I don't remember the details. Not long after the install was done, the entire system was ripped off and the guy gave up and went factory.

Problem: you have reversed the stero image for the passenger, and more than likely destroyed any amount of imaging you gained in the drivers position by having a second left channel on the passenger side of the vehicle. If your thinking of doing a center channel, either do a mono channel off the amp, or get a processor for it. Good Idea, just dont think it'll work too well, even with your comnpensation network.

STILL waiting to hear a GOOD pair of HLCD's!!

If it dont fit, force it... if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway...

this set up may sound ok to the driver but it will have ne depth or width which are big requirements for the car audio world ..also the paseenger sound will be 180 out and no compesation net work in the world can ix that ..you would be better of running left and right speakers normal and then mono the center through a l-pad ...but try this in stead ..take a set of tweetwr place them on the appilar firing across the dash at each other and go from there ..good width nic ddepth and height and a phantom center only weaknes will be a strong male center vocal ....just my opinion ...i love this set up expecially if you have a good strong mid bass up front ...i have this set up in my car and i love it and so do my judges ...

Comming After the pro 0-150 watt Sq title this year so frank better watch out case i dont like second.....

Chris aka "hccaintegra" you better buy a new car or fix yours up and get a paint job and mount those dangling tweeters from your A pillars if you want to compete with frank R. a little advice if you want to be world champion. Just giving you a little trouble. Let me see the install when you get it done. Bring it buy the shop sometime.

Sounds interesting. Let the people in the front hear the highs, and let the people in the back try to keep their brains from getting scrambled. There is an idea.

You had better worry more about your install and sound points that what Frank does for SPL. His system is rumored to be getting a complete overhaul this winter so, catching up to what he had isn't going to do much good now. The guy's got some things going on. Got some good ears building that car....and tuning it.
