I just went and bought a $6 dc power supply that goes to a cig lighter, has a plug right into the back of the Termlab and works just fine

you'll find some issues if you try metering the car that you are powering the termlab from.
when you run the system, you are pulling battery power. and if you are loud, that voltage is going to drop.. thereby lowering the input voltage to the termlab. you'll find inconsistant readings. the power spikes can potentially damage the termlab box too.
if you are gonna use a cigarette plug, use on in a different car that the one you are metering.

This is what I was worried about, so I checked and watched the output voltage of the power supply and it stays constant within a few 10th's to 14v even when my car's voltage drops from 14.5 to 12 or high 11's. I'm also seeing consistant readings, with the exception of when my batteries are getting drained and voltage starts dropping further, I lose a few tenths, which is expected considering the amp/subs are obviously getting less power when my voltage is no longer staying in the mid-high 13's
So then my question to you is, have you actually tried it and found these results? The power supply is regulated, and your wall voltage varies within 5-10% as well, but most people never worry about that when using AC-DC power supplies

yes. i have seen it happen, thats the only reason i gave you the heads up.
i have seen battery chargers affect the meter when testing at home.
as a result, my charger is always plugged into a diferent circuit in my garage.
as far as powering at a show.. yeah, we notcied this back in 04/05 that if we were powering the termlab from the same system we were metering, we would either get a really fluctuated reading, or the termlab would lock up and have to be shut down and restarted (software too)
i noticed you said BATTERIES..... this could be your saving grace preventing yo ufrom seeing the issues we had, because all of my teammates were street a, b, and street max 1-2 so we were all single battery class.
and in my buick, i would see dips as low as 9.6 volts during a burp before my amps would shut off. the power supply on the termlab is regulated, but not meant to go down to 9 volts.
in the garage, anytime my charger was kicked up to 100amps, and then back down to 10amps, the termlab would lock up and the software would have to be restarted, and the box turned off and back on.
this would only happen when i accidentally plugged in the charger on the same circuit as th meter.
i once did 181db in my garage. with a vehicle that was only capable of doing 159.

I am sure you could use a battery pack like Wayne has in his FAQ...if it was me I would get a few of those 2 volt cyclon cells that people used for multicell batteries and get an old ac adaptor for something you don't need, cut the cord and retrofit it on...that would last a long time, be rechargable, and easy to transport since you would only need like 7 cells to get the 14-20volts the meter wants...sure it would be nicer to not have to do that but it could be worse

Why do all of that. When. A) We could get a retro fit kit for it whatever do switch it over to USB power.(Was talked about before) B)To mabye do a trade in. Send our AC powered box ones in Pay a fee hopefull not huge for a newer USB powered box.
