From the looks of it you need the kit, the lights or leds need to match whatever power source you plan on using i.e. 12v, 120v ect.

My rig has the relay boards with the keithly metrabyte cards. With the light trees this setup costs about $2000 - $3000
I believe Wayne offers a USB interface, although you would probably need to get the relay boards, and then construct your light trees. I am sure it's possible to use led's, but I do not have the knowledge to tell you how.

I was actually wondering if I could make my own light tree too. I found the bulbs,I can build the tree out of some sort of wood. My only problem would be getting it to match the term lab.

It seems to me like it would be a major pain in the butt to try to get it to work exact and perfect with the tlab.

I'd say just build it and run it separately. It's not like ppl actually crank it right away when the 30 seconds starts anyway. You can just click it on when you hit start on the tlab. It's another click you got to do, but its not that much more work.

you can get the board from wayne. It will run 2-sets of 12 lights.

The relays in the board will switch 110V on and off. I'm not sure how low of voltage it will switch.

Instead of light bulbs, you could use led's. power runs to the relay then to the light/led.

The board runs off 5.5v

I think the boards are like $500 plus all your wiring and equipment.
