Car Adapter

A generic "cigarette-lighter" adapter can be used to power Term-LAB. Double-check the polarity of the power connector with a voltmeter prior to attaching the connector to Term-LAB.

Double checking polarity of the power connector....yea...anyone wanna give me a hand on whats happening here. I have the older sensor that needs to get plugged in and I don't want to be strapped to my house anymore. The last thing I want to do is bust my sensor and have to buy another one.

Also, how big of a power inverter do I really need to run a laptop and a t-lab? Like a 200 or 400 watter?

Johnny, you can run a pretty small inverter. I can't think of what wattage I have been using but it only has one receptacle. (probably 300-500 watt model) So far I havent had any probs hooking that up with the laptop power cord at the same time.

But I usually have another car supplying the power, not the one that is being tested.

a word of advice : do not run a laptop in the car you are testing have the laptop on a stand outside of the car because if you have it inside the pressure and vibrations will shake the harddrive and cause it to brake...I learned it the hard way by losing 2 laptops that way.

I don't get it, so there's a cig lighter attachment you can use instead of the AC plug?

Yeah, the center pin of the cig plug is pos and the outside is neg.

The term works off 12volt dc. so you should be good. I use the inverter because my laptops batt usually doesn't last through a good test session.

Please see the following topic...

http://audioforum.termpro.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=000020

You must be extremely careful if you use any power source other than the one that comes with the system. If you "reverse-polarity" the white box, it will damage your unit and kill your sensors.

Please note that this topic only refers to systems that require the external power supply. For the past year or so the Term-LAB interface box has been shipping with an internal power supply that derives it's power directly from the USB port on the computer.
