How recently have you updated your Microsoft USB drivers?

I don't know if this is or isn't the cause of your software hiccup - but I recently had to update my usb.sys's files to make my scanner and other software read through USB. It's a fairly recent MS upgrade.

Try that while I see if I can get some better answers for you.

That was going to be my next question - I run XP pro and updated my drivers Friday night. I'm still working on better technical help than I can offer.

The SPL Readouts will show 0.00 for SPL's below 120. The 120 is defined in the Min SPL field of the MDF file. (When you select Edit next to the input device you are editing.) This is the same page where you specify K-Facotors.

 -

Essentially, the meter will "mute" for scores below the Min SPL value.

On another note, the Term-LAB USB will not work with USB chipsets manufactured by ALI or SIS. (According to Microsoft there is a problem with these chipsets.) You can check the manufacturer by looking in the Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus. Any of the USB devices beginning with ALI or SIS are not going to work.

If you have one of these chipsets, you can purchase a USB card for your laptop or desktop to resolve the problem.

When the Term-LAB meter is running (the Start button has been pressed), the green Status LED on the Interface box should flash continously. When the meter is idle, the LED should be on continuously. If the LED is off, then the meter isn't communicating with the computer. Also, when the meter is running, the Actual Rate value displayed on the bottom line of the screen should show 512 for USB systems.

I have confirmed the problem with the ALI chipset. Usually, the meter will read the FIRST time you press Start. Then, on successive attempts, the meter will not work. This has something to do with the way the ALI chipset handles USB "packets". This was brought to our attention by Microsoft. There was a Knowledge Base article on their website related to this issue but I can't find it right now. (I just did a quick search. A little bit of effort would probably produce the article.)

You will need to either use another computer or purchase a USB adapter card for your computer.
