I have a problem with my term-lab.

It's reading 5db more than my friends term-lab meters.

Anyone can help with this?

Thanks

Isnt there a part in the Instacal set-up where you are asked to enter the K-factor, like I think mine was 177.2. If this number was entered wrong couldnt it cause variations in metering.

I prefer to handle tech-support questions via phone because troubleshooting is usually an interactive process.

1. What type of Term-LAB do you own? Term-LAB.NET or Term-LAB USB?

2. Are you using the power supply that came with your Term-LAB system?

3. What type of Term-LAB meter are you comparing your scores to? If the other meter is a Term-LAB.NET (LAPTOP) version, there is a possibility that the owner of that other meter has run the Calibration utility in Instacal. As stated in the manual, running this utility will corrupt the factory calibration values. Typically, a meter will read 5-6 dB high when it has been "calibrated".

4. The Term-LAB Sensor cable may be bad. If one of the conductors in the sensor cable is open or shorted, the meter will read 6 dB low. Cable problems are by far the biggest failure mode you can expect because you are slamming the cable in the door every time you test. I would highly recommend trying another cable.

Before you do anything to your system, you might want to do some more comparisons with other users of Term-LAB. I suspect that you either have a cable problem or the meter you are comparing to has been tampered with.
