Okay, 3 months ago I got the TL program. I have a laptop that I plan on using it with. The laptop had windows ME on it. The program would open and then just close. I was told I had to update my OS. So, the computer goes into the shop. The whole thing got reformated and cleaned up and windows XP Pro installed. Now when I try to run TL it comes up with the small box in the middle of the screen that says Term Lab and the ladies voice comes on and that is it. I leave it sitting for 30 min and still nothing. It neaver goes to the program. So, I ctrl+atl+del to close the program. When I try to rerun it, it gets as far but then comes up with a authirization error saying that I must conect the TL key and box and restart? Well the box is conected. I have tryed reinstalling TL and also the drivers. I don't know what else to do. This has been going on for 3 months and is really hurting my compation season. I really want this fixed. If I can get this fixed I am wanting to also get the RTA. Please help me before I just give up on everything.

Jason,

Sorry to hear about your difficulty. All of the troubleshooting instructions for the Term-LAB USB system can be found at the following link...

http://audioforum.termpro.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=12&t=000026

My guess is that there is a problem with the PC (not enough memory) or that the USB chipset in the PC is not compatible with Term-LAB.

If I showed up to Game 7 of the World Series and was found to have a Corked Bat in pre game warm-ups, what would happen to me? Even if I said that I 'didnt see it in the rulebook, my bad'.

Jason,

When you have a problem such as this, the easiest thing to do is eliminate the items that are not causing the problem.

I would suggest the following strategy...

  • Install Term-LAB on another computer. Make sure you follow the installation instructions EXACTLY. If Term-LAB works on this other machine, then you know the problem is not with the Term-LAB equipment. If Term-LAB does NOT work on the new machine, the Term-LAB system COULD have a problem. Further testing would be required.
  • If Term-LAB works on the new machine, try adding a new USB card to the old machine. Try Term-LAB on the old machine.

How does this apply to a laptop. I don't think there is a usb card that I can change. Thanks for you help Wayne. I am not a computer guy and have no clue on what I am doing. Thanks for walking me through this. Let me know.

If your laptop has a PCMCIA slot, you may be able to purchase a PCMCIA to USB card

First follow Wayne's instructions to see who makes your USB chipset.
How much memory (RAM) does your laptop have?
To check your computers (ram) memory, go to Control panel, then double click on "system" this main screen should show your processor, and RAM.
