This topic only relates to older Term-LAB systems that require a plug-in wall transformer. (Beginning in 2006, all Term-LAB systems are USB powered.)
==========
Term-LAB requires a DC voltage of between 12 and 20 volts. It is very important that you observe the correct polarity when using a source of power other than the transformer that comes with the system.
The CENTER pin is POSITIVE. If you reverse the polarity to the system, you will probably ruin your sensors. (Not covered by warranty.)
Car Adapter
A generic "cigarette-lighter" adapter can be used to power Term-LAB. Double-check the polarity of the power connector with a voltmeter prior to attaching the connector to Term-LAB.
Battery Pack
You may construct a battery-pack adapter cable to power Term-LAB. Ideally, the battery voltage should be between 14-20 VDC. Cordless power-tool batteries work great and will provide long run-times.
International Power Supply
The Term-LAB system is shipped with a wall-transformer that is rated for use with 120 VAC. If you live outside of the USA, your household power may be different. If this is the case, you will need to replace the Term-LAB power supply with another unit that is rated for use at your household voltage.
The output voltage should be 12-20 VDC. (Voltages of 14-18 VDC are ideal.)
You may not use a "switching" type power supply. These supplies are noisy and will degrade the S/N ratio of your system. Use a "wall-transformer" type supply.
Make sure you select a power supply that is completely isolated from the mains. (No common ground pin.)
