When the Term-LAB meter is running (after the Term-LAB Start button has been pressed), the green Status LED on the Interface box should FLASH continously. In addition, the Actual Rate value displayed on the bottom line of the screen should show "512" for USB systems.
When the meter is idle (after the Term-LAB Stop button has been pressed), the green Status LED should be ON continuously. In addition, the Actual Rate value displayed on the bottom line of the screen should show "0".
If the LED is OFF, then the meter isn't communicating with the computer. This indicates some type of USB Interface problem.
SPL MUTING
Term-LAB normally will not display readings when the measured SPL drops below the Min SPL value in the currently selected Input Device MDF File. (The default Min SPL value for Sensors is 120 dB.) If you want to display lower numbers, you can reduce the Min SPL value for the selected Input Device.
USB TROUBLESHOOTING
Please verify the following...
You installed Instacal with no errors (and rebooted).
You installed the Term-LAB program with no errors.
You attached your interface box to the USB port on your computer. Windows launched the "New Hardware Found" wizard and you then allowed Windows to automatically install the required drivers with no errors.
You ran the Instacal program. Instacal detected the Term-LAB USB system attached to your computer.
If all of the above items have been checked, then your Term-LAB is installed correctly. Here are some probable solutions.
INCOMPATIBLE USB CHIPSET
Term-LAB USB will not work with USB chipsets manufactured by ALI or SIS. (According to Microsoft there is a problem with these chipsets.)
You can check the manufacturer of your chipset by looking in the Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus. Many Asus motherboards use these defective chipsets.
Press the Windows Start button.
Right-Click on My Computer.
Select Manage.
Select the Device Manager tab.
Click on the + next to the entry "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".)
If any of the USB device names begin with ALI or SIS, that is the problem. If you have one of these chipsets, you will need to purchase a USB card for your laptop or desktop to resolve the problem.
USB DRIVERS ARE MISSING OR DAMAGED
If the USB drivers on your computer are missing or damaged, then Term-LAB will not work. Use the following procedure to resolve this problem.
Disconnect Term-LAB from your computer.
Open the Device Manager (as described above).
Right-Click on each USB Device in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers group and select Uninstall.
Select "Yes" to confirm that you want to remove the USB component. Windows will then remove the component from your system.
After all of the USB components have been removed, the Universal Serial Bus Controllers group will disappear.
Reboot your computer.
Windows will re-detect and re-install all of your USB devices.
Re-connect the Term-LAB Interface box to the computer. (Windows may re-install the drivers for Term-LAB as well.)
BAD USB CABLE
Try replacing the USB Cable.
INVALID BOARD NUMBER ASSIGNMENT
Symptom:
Windows has detected Term-LAB and installed the required drivers. The green "status" LED on Term-LAB is illuminated but Term-LAB doesn't work.
Problem:
Term-LAB should occupy the Board #1 slot in Instacal. (Demo Board typically occupies the Board #0 slot.) If the Demo Board is deleted from the system, Term-LAB may be assigned the #0 position. Term-LAB may not work when assigned to Board #0.
Solution:
To correct the problem, do the following...
Run Instacal
Right-Click on the Bd# 0 - TERMLAB-USB entry.
Select "Change Board Number"
Change the Board Number to 1.
Exit Instacal
Run Term-LAB
