i have a customer that brought in a car a few weeks back, it is a dodge intrepid. i had to wait a couple extra days to do the install apariently a mouse had chewed up wires for the electronic tranny when the car was on the used car lot.
it only came with a stock headunit and a add on changer in the trunk. i put in a audiopipe headunit and db drive plt 15 along with a ma audio 1998. 3 weeks later the headunit dies, i replace it 3 weeks later (yesterday) he calls again and it pops again. the fuses are fine and is hooked up via metra dash kit i installed. the only thing is the cd changer is tapped into the factory headunit wires.

have you ever heard of a changer doing this? i am wondering if the changer is burning up the inputs on the headunit. i offered to remove the changer when installing the headunit.

at this point i might be able to warrenty it. i have never seen a headunit do this and 2 times in a row, hmmm. no fuses blew...

x2 if its a cheaper headunit that might just be the problem, i used to sell some boss radios, just to many defective junkers so i stopped, and where is the changer tapped into the harness? after or before the fuse? if after, tap into the harness before the fuse and run your own inline fuse to the changer and see what happens

it is a cheaper headunit but better built than the lower end jvc or pioneer. i never really looked into the wiring on the changer because i told him it would cost extra. there is a fuse right in the headunit so the changer is tapped before the fuse on that and between the headunit and fuse box. it is still getting power from the yellow wire due to the eject and security light behind the face still lights.thanx guys
