hmm, ok, I know this is a tough one to solve... here's the symptoms: -alternator whine in left side front tweet -no whine in right side -sometimes whine there when I first start the car up (maybe 5% of the time) -whine kicks in often after around 20 minutes (this happens around 70% of the time)
Here's the part of the system related to the tweeter. 1997 4Runner Sony CDX-C910 deck stinger hyper series rcas PG XS4600 powering SPL60 component set up front and boston CX 4" coaxs in back power wire under panels down driver's side, all other cables up passenger side.
well, I assume the speaker wire for the driver's side components picks up noise as it makes its way across the dash to the left door. I thought at first the noise was picked up in the middle of the dash, under the deck, so I moved the wire up closer to the deck and secured it there. no change. well, I was thinking about running the speaker wire for that up the passenger side, under the front passenger seat, up the middle console, and then across the dash to the crossover.
argh, I don't know. annoying as hell. oh, two things that also may be a source of noise: the deck has an external inverter which creates noise. I don't know where to mount it so I just stuck it behind the speedo guages. the other source, the crossover itself and where to mount it. I have it stuck close to the steering column right now. I don't want to put it in the door cuz there's moisture there and I don't want to stick it in the kick as I did on the other side cuz my power wire comes in there. any recommendations? thanks in advance for any help

Run your tweeter wire under the carpeting, as far away from all wiring as possible. I have only seen one incidence of noise being introduced over a speaker wire, and that was in a Honda accord, where the speaker wire was actually twisted along one of the computer harness's. Best of luck!

Switch the RCA's left for right at the deck. Did the noise move? if yes, it's the deck, if not, put them back to normal. Change them at the next piece, which sounds like the amp in this case. Did the noise move? If yes, it's the wire, if not, put it back to normal. If there is a bunch of processors, keep doing this, eliminating each wire and component one at a time. Once you are at the amp, switch the speakers left for right. If the noise moves its the amp, if not, put them back to normal. You will have found the problem by now but you can keep going to eliminate the speaker wire and passive crossover as well.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll try all that. the only problem is that it only happens occasionally. and when it finally does occur, I'm on the road.
