I just solved a very annoying thump in my sytem when I change tracks or discs in my changer. Also got rid of a faint hiss in my system when I put a ground loop isolator on my main RCA at the back of my deck.
Is this a satisfactory way to fix the problem? Or do I need to change my grounds?
One more question, Is there anything you can use to sheild the portion of the RCAs where the conneciton is made to the deck? My deck is right beside the fuse box and is noisy. I heard mu metal foil is good. Where can I get some?

Well, the manufacturer didn't put the noise in there (unless it's Sherwood) so No I don't think it's a good fix. Generally an isolator will kill bass unless you spend mega for a decent transformer system. If it sounds the same to you then don;t worry about it.

And that's the bottom line, cuz: LORD DUKK SAYS SO!
The Big Show The Dukk says: Know your bass: PORT your damn box!! Have HoleSaw, Will Travel!
I tried to pick kitchen foil with very strong magnet - no iron there, but I couldn't pick any RCA either.
I also checked one Sound Quest catalog where is stated following: Quad shield - 100% aluminum foil - 60% aluminum braid -100% aluminum foil - 40% aluminum braid. Or double shield - 100% copper foil - 95% braided cooper shield. I don't see no iron there. And I believe, that it is simmilar also with other brands.
We are not talking about magnetic forces, but electromagnetic, so if wire is picking electric interference, any conductive material might act as shielding. If static magnetic forces would produce noises, than subwoofers would probably be biggest source. But if you want to change magnetic forces into electrical, you must MOVE conductive materials (copper, etc.) trough magnetic field. But in the car all wires stand still.
Good thing about kitchen foil is also, that it don't rust. And it is very cheap to try it. Just go to kitchen and take some.

Did some troubleshooting and found out a couple of things:
The noise is coming from the fuse box being too close to the back of the deck where the RCA connection is made. (Sherwood? please Dukk, give me some credit!)
The thumping, humming is a problem with the CD changer. I took it apart and the input connector has worked its way loose from the board, causing a bad ground.
BTW, I have no bass loss - so I will try the aluminum foil idea and keep the isolator in place until I can get my CD changer fixed. Thanks, guys.

Foil is not for magnet shielding, but to pickup RFI and dump it to ground. Magnetic shielding is used when speakers are to be mounted in close proximity of a TV or monitor.

If it dont fit, force it... if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway...
