How does putting a bigger gage wire from your battery to amp help out with a more constant power source? I thought that the resistance of the thicker wire would effect the power. But if someone could explain it to me

Typically, thicker wire has a lower resistance to the current flow, which in turn allows for more electrical pressure (voltage) to reach the amplifier.
Most people will splurge on the wire, but fail to realize MOST of the voltage loss occurs at breaks in the wire, like terminals and fuse connections.
Before upgrading the wire, check all your connections, etc, including ground from battery to body, and from the amplifier to body. You can actually check voltage loss across a connection while the amp is playing by setting a volt meter to read DC voltage, and placing a lead on each side of a electrical connection and taking a reading. The reading you get like this is the loss across THAT particular connection.
