Hi all, I have an EPX2. While playing the zero bits track of the IASCA Setup and test cd, I turned the volume all the way up, I hear lots of noise.. some static, some hissing. I didn't solve the problem since I have a built in xover and eq in my hu. Now, i have just got hold of a 7909, I need to use back my EPX2. it's definitely not any rcas or wiring problems. I've read from somewhere that we need to put some silicone into the terroid coil. any other suggestions? thanks a lot.

Hello Sq, Darn noise troubles Go to RF's site and ask your question on thier forum. Their techs got back to me pretty quick, a day or so. Good Luck! Peace

LDW3rd, I have written to RF tech on many occassions. sometimes, their answers assumes I have no ice knowledge at all.. so it will take me a few emails. furthermore, where else to get answers of EPX2 than from the horse's mouth? cheers

it could be the RCAs on the input or output side

Unfortunately no.. I would rather throw away my rcas than my EPX2.. btw, do anyone of you use EPX2? Do you encounter similar problems as me? thanks

no the actual RCA input and outputs there could be a floating ground or short that's causing this not the RCA cables

guys-------you find an isolate where noise i coming from by muting the inputs at the end of the signal chain----amp spyderman--- you want all processors to float the the signal ground cause if it didn't you'd end up with a ground loop. The siganl ground should only be ref to one spot ---- the HU

Hi All, The noise is coming out of the EPX2. I am pretty sure. So what I am asking is do you guys encounter as well? any solutions? I still cannot beleive that such a high quality stuff can have such noise. thanks a lot..

it could be a ground loop inside the EXP, I would take it out take it to your RF shop and have them bench test it, they can tell you whats wrong with the EXP2

if i remove the epx2, i can lower my rf360.6 all the way down..
btw, are u using the EPX2 as well? thanks]
here what you need to do
---either get a scope or a mini amplifier[self powered speaker]
---find the MAX unclipped voltage out of the HU. It's possible that it can go full volume without clipping[read your other tread]
See if you next downstream processor and handle the output of the HU. just plug it in and listen with the scope or test amp.
If it's clipping you need to make some RCAs and add a inline varible resistor [pot] and turn up the resistance untill the clipping stops. Now remove the pot and measure the resistance and soilder and normal resistor in place on the input RCAs
Continue down the signal path doing that untill you get to the amp.
measure your final signal voltage -----say 6V then set the amp to 1/3 of it 2v ------ that makes a 3/1 overlap and really is the max overlap you want.
no I don't have a epx2 -----I just jump around different meassage boards helping people

OK... I have bought a scope. I have tried 3:1 overlap using CD104 -10dBFS 1kHz test tone... I set my EPX vol at 35... 7909 at max well... NOISY!!! funny ticking noise and high hissing in between tracks and zero bits track I had to lower it to vol 30!!! This is not maximising my system right??
I decided to try -5dBFS@1kHz instead...this should be 2:1 overlap..same EPX2 at vol 35 and hu at max vol. no way...I still need to lower the tweet and midrange gain. btw, my EPX2 was at gain level 107. The EPX2 does produce non clipping 1kHz sine wave at max vol 40. But this doesn't mean it is noisy right??
any more feedbacks?? should I have scoped it at EPX vol 40 instead?

one of the selling points of the 7909 and what made it revol. at the time was it's Zero Noise Muting. so this sounds odd, that you have noise between track with this deck

Spydermann, I was trying to prove that the EPX2 was the one which generated the noise. Chris mentioned about 3:1 overlap. Once I know my limitation, I can then do workarounds. cheers

SQ, got you I think out of all you listed that the EPX2 is the culprit
