I've been keeping up with the ABC box thread and I think I might give it a shot. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good enclosure design program for accurately designing ported enclosures. Could I get away with using the mathematical formulas? I'm looking for *real* cheap here. :-) I've got some old Orion Cobalt 12s to test with. I don't know the parameters, so I'll be going with a pretty generic box volume :-( Can anyone help?
My other question is the tuning frequency. Originally Dukk was talking about 30hz and 57hz (1.9 x 30hz). Could I go lower? Say 25hz or even 20hz? This is probably geared toward someone with alot of experience with them (ehem! Dukk???). Do I need to do anything special when designing an ABC for frequencies that low? I'll be running 60hz on down on the subs. I definitely want good SQ, but the SPL advantage of a ported enclosure has me intrigued. :-)
I'll be putting this in the back of a '94 Camaro. I should have plenty of room for at least a single clamshelled ABC. Can you guys help me out?

The Camaro is going to be fun - with all those angles....
Y'know, look around - there's plenty of decent free software around on the 'net.
Also, I have Cobalts in my database. Are they the original series or 2 or 3? Also, SVC or DVC?
Finally, you are running a nasty combination of ISO, low tuning, ABC, and marginal ported driver. This leaves a pretty small box with HUGE ports! My recommendation would to not go ISO and leave base tuning at 30Hz. Let me know what series woofer that is and how much space you have to spare...

And that's the bottom line, cuz: LORD DUKK SAYS SO!
The Big Show The Dukk says: Know your bass: PORT your damn box!! Have HoleSaw, Will Travel!
I've seen quite a few different software programs, but wasn't sure which was most accurate. I've done some "mock" enclosures on them and get different results on each one. I wasn't sure which one to trust. :-)
I'm not sure which Cobalts I have. They're pretty old dual voice coil drivers. I bought them about four years ago (I know... time for new ones).
ISO was just a thought. I thought I might be able to tighten up the bass a little like that. I originally thought of going with both of them firing straight up in an ABC with a shared main chamber. I wasn't sure of the ideal box size though. I figured being an older sub, they would require quite a bit of space.
When I originally bought the subs, I got a sealed enclosure -- a little over 2 cu. ft. shared space. It sounded alright, nothing special. It sounded like a fair pair of 12's. I thought I'd try something different. Maybe something with a little more umph! Know what I mean? I figured, "hey! I'll port my box!" -- 'cause Lord Dukk Says so!!!
Thanks again Dukk.

-oh, I can spare my whole cargo well. Not much, be it should be enough space for the two 12s. Thanks!
