I was thinking about 2 of the Db drive 12's for my 2001 Intrepid.
power wise, they'll be pushed by a Crossfire 2000D
What size box do they need though. i want either 2 12's or 2 15's. i'm not sure how bass travels in the car though. i have Diamond audio speakers through the car using deck power right now from a Pioneer P960. its a nice HU. i do have a amp for the speakers though. a 4ch Crossfire amp

i plan on getting the install by the end of the month.
if anyone here is from atlanta and has box building skills let me know. i hear snail shell boxes are the sh!t for just about any sub.

next summer i plan on putting 2 12W7's, rainbow speakers and arc amps in a 2005 300C with the HEMI [Big Grin]
maybe i can buy they car for christmas. if not i'll get it for my birthday. something to myself [Big Grin]

i heard that db drive subs are cheaply made.

a seller here said that db drive subs are like 20 dollars to make and they sell them for like 80.

a 12 i think would probably take like 2.5 sealed. my ex friend had two plats and the box took half of the trunk this was in a maxima. he was running them with a 1000 watt db amp.

from the few times i've delt with quantum/db drive their higher end subs were built rather well. online they're cheap.. like $150 for the 12's but locally they go over $300 each.
i don't really wanna go sealed,i'd rather go with a ported setup. my trunk is a hole lot larger than a maxima's. i can fit 6^3 easy. i'm also running a crossfire 2000d, not a 1000d. i remember reading on here about a guy running 3200rms to a single Db driver platinum 15...??? gotta find that guy so i can get some box specs.. but what do you think about.. 3.2^3 each tuned to 32hz???

Thats not at all true of the Platinum Line. They hold up pretty well actually. We run a set of the 12"s with a US amps 2000x per at 1ohm and they take the power fine for burps. Does a 152 on the new audiocontrol SPL-190 and a 151 on termpro.

i have 3600rms but due to being a current hog of a amp i cant hold voltage for long, til next yr. i am keeping the car able to run in stock 2 iasca for demo's to customers. i have burped it full tilt and it loves it. i have a friend/customer running 2 PL15d4's off 2 1200rms amps besides not getting enough voltage it isnt near enought power. with 1200rms each the sub is starving badly for power. next season running a 4000d to his pair and wouldnt flinck about a 4000d per but nowhere near enough power after some upgrades and staying in street class. if u want to stay with 12" run just 1 if u r competing.

next the PL shouldnt be tuned for 32hz because of a high BL and u will loose alot of output. these r spl subs and i wouldnt tune below 35hz even for daily apps. if u want more of a daily driver sub get the quantum QC's they pound and the 12s handle 1000rms no problems...SPLaudio

i have a db drive plat. 12 and it was powered by a hifonics brutus 1500d and i couldn't play it full tilt for more than 3 mins without it stinkin. u know coil smell i don't think it will handle the power that they say they will. my enclosure is 2.25 i think tuned to 32hz and it goes fairly low and loud but nothing like my old 9012 i used to have. but its a descent sub though. i would maybe be interested in building ya a box. pm me if u like.

power wise, csuho.. it should take a 1500d no problem. my sister has a PL12 in her Rsx. she's pushing it with a Mojo@2ohms. her box is like... 2.2^3 tuned to 36hz. it pounds for a single 12. she can play nusic close to full tilt and the sub takes the mojo. i did smell something the first day she got the sub in. probably glue on the coil or something. i don't think she'll ever be able to get her radio all the way up.. its hard to get it over 40. she has a pioneer P8600

as far as building a box. i really want someone locally to do it so i don't have to pay shipping charges. but um pm me a price for a box like... -
that box is 5.33^3. i think that will work just about perfect for the pl12's. i wanted to go with 15's but i also want the box to fit in the trunk in the back area, and since i have an enclosure for the 6x9's i can't fit a box for 15's unless i fire the subs differently. i'm not trying to loose all my trunk room right now.
i'll take a pic of the trunk. its huge but it has a enclosure for the 6x9's.
as for that box.. this is it.
http://www.audiodynamicdesign.com/catalogue/Ported/slotported.htm

it sells for $130

i checked the specs and took a measuring tape to my trunk...it would fit so perfect its crazy. i just wanna know what the box is tuned to cuz i may buy it...

well normally ur going to smell the glue the first time u push a sub really hard then there shouldnt be any smell.

csuho; there could be several problems such as clipping, caused by voltage dropping too low, encloser problems. i have yet to get mine more than warm or any others that i have installed. before my 3600rms current hog i had a 1200 on each coil with little voltage drop and it loved it also.

there is no way this sub will handle 3600rms for a whole song if i had enough voltage but what sub will? i can also put u in contact with another guy that sells dbdrive and can tell ya how much power they handle. look what Ben says above running a 2000x per 12" that is close to 3k each.

it will handle more power than my pbx xs15d2 and get louder, just dosent have the musical ability.

me personally would trade a PL for a 9515 well maybe just so i could sell the 9515 and buy a PL and have cash left over, lol.

right now i have a audiopipe txx-ap15d2rd in my daily testing it. great sub but wont handle the power the PL dose or get as loud...SPLaudio

damn. i'ma wait for ben to holla at me or go to my installer and see what kinda prices he comes up with

It's really not hard to brace a box. For friends I would always use prefab boxes I got from ebay and throw some bracing in and caulk the seams. They are suprisingly well built, at least the ones I used to get.
