my friend has an older 9917 (with the 450oz tripled-stacked motor) as a daily and it sounds great.

how are the 9917b's and does anyone have the true xmax ratings on the 9917's (there used to be questions about dd's ratings for their subs)? also, does anyone know the FS, Q, dB, etc. because it is not listed on their site (or maybe i'm not looking hard enough). [Big Grin] thanks.

Before you throw another hissy fit, let me clarify. You and all other DD users would have to agree that the 9900's are not the BEST daily drivers. Sure you can use them for that, but 9500's and 3500's are much BETTER for daily use.

So what? That makes them a good daily driver??? [Confused]

I take it you dont know much if anything about DD subs. the 9900 is essentially a 9500 with a lighter/stronger cone it will sound fine for daily provided the box and install is good... and I misread I thought he was asking for them TRUE rms power since I know alot of ppl didnt know what the actual figures are...

C'mon dogg. Quit splitting hairs. If you already had a 9917 for comps and you didn't want to buy another sub, then it would make sense. But buying a 9900 series just for daily driving is like buying a dragster to drive to the grocery store.

Bottom line: For the price, power requirements, and overall performance in a daily setup there are better choices.

Not if you plan on putting 5k plus to a sub for competition and you don't have the money to have a daily and a comp only vehicle. You try to have the best of both worlds ya know?

I would really love to see someone try and put 3000 watts continuous to that little 3" coil for more than 2 minutes...

Why would they not be good for a daily driver. Mine work fine check out my sig and you will see that I run alot more than 3000 watts to each of mine. And yes when I say daily driver I mean I play music through them its not a comp car that I drive

I have a customer who runs two D2s at 0.75ohm onto a 9915 for daily. It's been going strong for over a year. Hits 147.8 in a sedan and sounds great to boot.

I am still the PROUD owner of my DD 9915b series subs. They do their job VERY well - getting loud.

However, imo their SQ bites. The 9915b = 9515e, that 'lighter cone' is only 20 grams lighter. Other than that it's a 9515 with a yellow cone that will fade to orange and then brown with continued exposure to UV light. (Gotta love the intrinsic property of yellow kevlar fading from UV light...)

As to a daily driver setup: 99.5% of the population in car audio have NO idea what good SQ truely sounds like in the 2khz and above range, much less below 100hz. So for that 99.5% of the people out there, I'm sure that they would be happy with the insane BL compression present with that motor...

And before anyone runs their mouth about me not knowing what im talking about I've had the 9915b's in everything from 10 cf each to 2.2 cf each with everything from 400 watts to 4400 watts each.

Get that cone moving more than 5mm total and boom you have that wonderful bl distortion...

If you go DD for sq, look at the 9115 and 9112 - now THAT should be an awsome moofer!

One last thing, that 3" coil cant handle as much as everyone thinks... Any more than 3kwrms through it for longer than about 2 minutes WILL separate the coil.

How do I know this? That's how mine both died. 4400 watts a sub for 15 burps over a 3 minute period. Switching to an 8 layer would prevent that over the short term...

In any event if you dont mind the audible BL compression at all volumes (save sub 130dB levels) and like your music REALLY loud - get the 9515e. If you want SQ first and a bit of punch get the 9115. If you couldn't give a flip about SQ and want something LOUD look to the 9915b...

I don't belive that the 9100 series is offered in a 15 atleast not yet only 10's and 12's. But as far as sq goes the 9100 is tops

I was running my DD9917 a series with a pair of Zapco 9.0s on each one.
They sounded fine, playing/demoing music for hours at a time and I also did "deathmatch" with them several times, with no problems.... Thats 4k+ RMS
