what the lowest playing sub setup you've ever heard? From what i've read the shiva and tumult are supposed to be a couple of the lowest playing subs on the market. What are some others? And how low are we talking exactly? Thanks for input.
-Deep
p.s. how much rms can a shiva really take?

I've heard that Infinity Kappa Perfect's can play below 20 hz. Never heard them in something tuned that low though.

I have freeaired my sub with 1.5kw and it played 10hz just fine. 10hz for 10seconds, then 10-20hz each tone for 10 seconds and it was fine.I dunno if that answers your question or not.

Oh, in a sealed box the sub reaches full xmax at 16hz.

Well, I don't think this is what you're talking about, but the ole Servodrive Contrabass cab. is the lowest I've heard. It'll go as low as you could want. And with 2 active 15's and two passive 18's its hella loud. Oh yeah, with only 300 watts [Smile]

As far as a single driver, the PG Cyclone comes to mind. I remember them saying it has the displacement of about 4 "normal" 12's...but that was a few years back. I am not sure but the Tumult probably has it beat as far as displacement goes.

If I had a lot of power and a sealed box, I would put my money on an XXX 18 though...

In person my EVO-R 15's probably are the loudest low hz subs I have herad they get the air moving pretty well at anywhere from 45 down to what ever you want to throw at them. Also my ppi pro 10's like the lows very well.

As far as the lowest with any type of volume probably:

The 34 already mentioned
The PG cyclone is rated to play flat to 11hz
Probably any of Elementals subs
All of Audiomobile subs got dam loud in the low freq's including their low level EVO 10's those were dam impressive.
Basically any large displacemnt sub with a low fs

Just remebers one Hollywood sound labs old 15 Edge seris they call Mista ED would play 20hz swells at over 120 dbs linear.

it's really a PA speaker, I belive it was 500 watts max, and played down to 17, but with a huge rolloff at anything below 22Hz

I would say richard clarks bread box van. like a 5 foot driver, that would probably be a low tone.

Richard Clark's speaker spanks anything else I've ever seen by an unmeasureable amount.. It peaked in the 20's plays extremely loud at 7 hz(what I saw it playing) and moves so much air I thought it was going to tear the cube truck apart.

7Hz? I wonder if he modded the "sub" from its original design, because I took a class from the fellow who designed the sub, and built it with Richard Clark. It was designed for 30Hz as I recall. It was kind of funny how the "motor" worked. I don't suppose there's anything from preventing a person from getting it to play 7Hz. I bet it didn't play that tone for long though [Wink] Or, any tone for long for that matter...

BTW it DID tear that truck apart. The pressure collapsed the rear portion of it.

There are NO GOOD large diameter subs
because-
1. Limited numbers
2. limited practically.(box size)
3. Motor costs

so they make cheap crap, with high Qts numbers forcing Huge boxes, on 21" or 30" subs and low efficiency,so a few tumults would get close...

something with a low Fs is always a good start.
You need to move alot of air.

The shiva can take its RMS rating , electrically.

Physically, it will run out of excursion in the midbass(assuming 20hz tune) long before its RMS rating. like any sub!

winisd pro will show you how much it can take..
