I have been running 4 - 12" W3's for over 2 years now. I like them and think they sound great. I havent been able to get my setup very loud, but the reason for that is simple....lack of effort. I built 1 box for daily driving and went to a few shows with it. Earlier this year I decided to build a second box...my wall. Well the wall wasnt too impressive although I tried it one time and never tweaked it at all. I am sure if I kept on trying and built several more boxes, tweaked the ones I have I would see a lot better numbers.
This sport is trial and error. Very Very few people get it right the first time out with any setup, JL included. As for the cost of the subs being too pricey, well I think that is a matter of who you know, who you talk to, and if you shop around. I got a smokin deal on my subs, all 4 of them for about $500
I have wanted to change my subs out to something different, but that is because my boredom with looking at the ones I got, not because of performance issues.
As for the comment of competitor support, I have never seen a JL representative at a db drag event. I have never had a fellow JL competitor come up to me and say...take your subs full tilt, if they blow we will help you get more.....

I can see the reasoning about the prices though. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a sub. I think I got both my 15w3s for $400 or $500. I also don't think my numbers are that bad for a daily driver that is tuned low.
I hardly know anybody with a system, so I haven't been really been able to hear a lot of subs. I have heard a 9515 though and think they're FANTASTIC. Just can't afford them.
To each their own.
Lets see...#1, you paid way too much for your 15w3's. I had 2 of them and they both cost me 500 bucks for the pair, brand new. I own a 9515 and cost me 350 bucks, also new. So...wherever your shopping at, stop and shop elsewear. I bought my 9515 blown locally and sent it in for recone....all adds up to about 350 bucks. Basically a new sub.

But, as stated previously, one of the drawbacks to JL products is the hefty price tag. Probabaly not an issue if you are a JL sponsored competitor, but to Joe-Ordinary-Guy it can be.
I want to make it perfectly clear, I am not in way shape or form sponsored by JL Audio. I paid straight up from all equipment in my vehicle.

Haven't been around here in a while.
JL audio has given a lot of competitors plenty of support. They treat their customers very well and support their warrenties extrememly well. We had a pair of 15w3s that we smoked to all hell, flipped the VCs around in them and we had them shipped in and had a new pair within a week or so. When we were more into the sport, we had great support from this company as well as good products. I understand that many people do run JL out there and run their mouth but its not reason to bash the company for that. I look at people like that the same as everybody else, lets line'em up! As for the fact of prices go, everybody elses flag ship subs are in the same price range, look at the DD9915s RF team RFs, and many more, they are all steeply priced but there is people that pay that for them. If there is a price issue, do as many other people do, look for the deals. So I guess the best thing to say about this is what was already said.... To Each Their Own.

The price I said WAS for the pair, not per sub. Duh.

i bought a 13 w7 when they first came out and done a comparison with one orion hcca 12 power handling in a box of the same specs ported @ 35 hz the jl came close but didnt even come close too getting as loud as the orion so i stuck with my 2 hcca 15s
i had the exact same power going to both subs and they were miced at the same points and still not as loud
i had about 2 k power too each so i wasnt underpowering
in my daily i have 2 hcca 275 g4s per 15 and a xtr2400 pro to the 18
there hasnt been a jl system that has come by my shop that has been able too hit 162@ 30 hz yet
i have stuck behind orion bass until they laid all of us off and sold the company
but i still look for orion oldschool cause in my opinion thats what i like
jl is a good brand but there are a lot of others out there
there is no better or worse but i will get louder than a jl and many of the streetbeat systems
