dont laugh, im only 15 but i have 4 12's in a 4 cube box with 30 in. of port 13" long, and i'm running about 500 watts to them.
if you stand near the trunk when its open, its loud as ****, but in the car, you hear the 6x9s more [Frown] should i move my batt and run 2 subs ported and sealed off from the trunk in an 18 cube box? with my limited power i need efficiency and to get the sound into the car. ive been planning to hook everything up for about a year and am very, very disappointed. [Frown]

ok so do you have any front stage? If so why do you need those 4 6x9's in the back get rid of two and leave the two holes empty just cover them with a grill and i bet you will have much more bass in the cabin. I took my 6x9's out and they are just empty holes made my bass come up front much better. Also with those older cars its hard to get the bass passed the rear seats it gets muffled quick. Try removing two of you 6x9's and let us know if its any better.

Maybe I missed something, but I don't think he said 4 6x9s, but either way you can remove them and that should help. I know yoou probably like the 6x9s, I know I did at your age, but they really just ruin your front stage. If you're tight on cash maybe you could sell them if they're aftermarket and use the money to buy some better front speakers or a small 2 channel amp for the front speakers if you're currently running them off the HU.

Also the box should usually be facing the rear of the trunk if its not already.

4 12"s in a 4cf box ported? Thats part of the problem. That is the right size for sealed 12s. You either need:
1. about 8cf total for ported or
2. just use 2 12s in a 4cf box or
3. seal the box
Any of those 3 should sound better, but you need to be more specific with what kind of subs you have, what kind of amp, how its wired.
You might need to change the type of ports you're using I.E. the tuning freq.

yeh, im not quite a beginner, but i do need help alot of times. i was going to port through to the cabin and seal off from the trunk but the vertical space under my rear deck is only 8 inches so that is impossible without some sort of off-plane calculations.

how do you have the subs facing what you have now is probably causing a lot of cancellation try facing all the subs to the back

i fixed it, the subs are 4 ohms each and i had them hooked up series and parallel to get a 4 ohm load, well i rewired the box to a 1 ohm load which OK becuase the amp is a 1 ohm stable mono-block. so i went to my cousins house to tune it becuase he lives on the outskirts of the city. after 15 mins of playing with the gainss and crossover on the amp, one of the guys from down the street drove up and was complaining that it was shaking his windows!

^You may be louder now, but you could get even louder. See above.

ok take out the filling behind your seat. there should be some insulation or board. take it out.

also sealed box is better for your 4 subs. ported isnt as good for those subs. look into the owners manual to see if they even recommend ported. if they do check the box sizes. if sealed only check box sizes again. if you have a mono block amp and is 100% 1 ohm stable then drop them down. be fore warned though if not quality amp for your subs it might not truely be 1 ohm stable as claimed. boss amps claimed 2 ohm stable but they really were not.

check your recommended box size for your subs and check for insulation in your trunk and back seat.

oh, and i am guessing even sealed for your subs 1 cube per sub is way too big. my punch 12s from 98 were only .75 cubes each. i got 2 sealed boxes in my room currently all sealed. if you lived closer to NY i would help you out and try a few things.

OK, my car has been stripped twice over, and I already have maximized airflow into the cabin, but i do have a full rear deck with 4 6x9s. right now I am getting x-foam and sealing the trunk airtight. since the incident at my cousins house, the sealing I did this morning really helped the output. now when I burp with the volume up, it hurts my chest. I burped it about an hour ago to show my sister and my chest still feels weird. [Big Grin] Does anybody know how many dBs I might be hitting? [Confused] now if I get gains every time I reduce resonance and vibration it will be the beyond my expectations. [Eek!] now thats hard. [Roll Eyes]

I forgot to check your link earlier. Nice car. Considering your age you're off to a very good start. Once you get the subs dialed in, I would try to get more power to them. They can probably handle at least twice what they're getting now. Check out the Lanzar Opti SL800D, 800-900 watts and $140 new on ebay.

my amp is a pyramid pb2400d. it is advertised at being 2400 rms but it only has 3x30 amp fuses. 90 amps times 14.8 volt equals 1332 watts consumed and 1065 out to the subs @ 1 ohm. I want to build a different box because mine peaks at 70 hz. and has very little low end. i need it to clear the amps so i have access to them but it can only be about 12-18 in high because of the trunklid.
