If you have the abitlity time and patience to do it sealing of the trunk and facing forward will be beter. If not go ahead and face it back it will still sound good though you will get alot more trunk rattle and other distortion but if you face it forward without sealing off then you will lose alot of output due to cancelation cause by out of phase backwaves reflected from the trunk wall sealing off eliminates this problem and prety much eliminates trunk rattle also

It may not be louder and it may not sound better. It all depends on the tuning of the box, the car itself, etc.

Personally I would fire it to the rear of the car. The wavelength will be longer and it will be a good bit louder on the lower notes.

Tuning it higher and firing forward would probably work better for and spl type setup, but would suffer in the sq department.

so your saying my best bet is to face the subs forward and seal off the truck and be able to change the ports say 35 for everyday use and higher when i go to comp.

also i hooked one of the se's up today and the lead going into the sub is hitting the spinder(i think thats what it is) how can i fix that?

wrong SQ will be beter with the trunk sealed and the box forward look at most sq competitors out there. reson being you eliminate any reflected waves and only recieve the direct sound from the sub also you eliminate trunk rattles and possible bad acoustic coupling between the trunk and the cars interior. the only reason facing backwards is usually better is because people dont seal off and therefore the waves bouncing off the trunk and the waves direct from the sub when it is facing forward are out of phase and cancel each other causing output loos turning it around forces all the waves to bounce off the trunk first so that they all arive in phase the wave length has absolutly nothing to do with it the problem is turning the sub backwords also causes massive amounts of trunk rattle in a high powered system even with extensive sound deadining so do the best thing and seal it off and face them forward you will love the sound and you car wont rattle itself to death and sound like a fart mobile from the outside here is a good document on this

http://www.installer.com/tech/aiming.html

now look at all of his examples and ad one more the box faces forward with the trunk sealed. there now is no backwave at all to be out of phase only one perfectly in phace forward firing wave the ultimate solution to this problem

http://www.carstereo.com/help/dsumner_09-02.cfm

this is a good article on anoying trunk rattle and why rear facing subs cause alot more of it
