they can hit hard and loud if you know how to design alignments for them, but you will, without a doubt, loose sound quality with a BP

with a cheap $40 dollar 12" (6mm Xmax) and a 6th order BP, with 250 watts, i can get 120 dB with music @ 1 meter, in wide open free-space ....in vehicle would be much louder......just one example though

They are one note wonders if you a) design them to be(SPL) or b) dont build them correctly. You can design a bandpass box to sound good, though it probably won't quite be an SQ champion. I use a big BP in my comp car for MECA and have done pretty well..

I've heard some good sounding BP boxes ran from 30-60Hz then had a 8"f from there to 300Hz

I did 137 at 35 hz with a cheap 10" and 300w in a 6th order on the dash sealed up. I did 140 with the same amp/speaker in a different 6th order tuned a little higher.. [Smile]

BP's are especially good when you want to get all the pressure into the cabin in a trunk car, I have it that way in my car and it works quite well.

very nice!! hey KurupT, how's about that for "losing a lot of bass you should have? and at 35 Hz to boot!!

i think me and Buzz will agree that when you have few drivers, and low power, but still crave thump, a properly aligned 4th or 6th order BP is the way to go

hey Buzz, ever built an 8th order BP? i got some alignments from a few years back for smaller drivers (6-1/2" to 8"), but i've been too lazy to actually build them!..hehe
