i dont know how the RE subs compare but it had its own war with my 9515.

i have a feeling the sp is going to be talked about and compared to others subs for a LONG time

Did you have an HC 15 also?

I used to run a 9515. Here's my impression of the
9515 vs. the HC 15:

The 9515 was noticeably louder than the HC 15 to me. It sounded tighter also. Now this is not a totally fair comparison for the HC as I was running 2 D2s to the 9515.

The only reason I switched to the HC 15 was that I burnt the 9515.

As I said the HC 15 is a great bang for the buck sub.

no i never had or heard any RE product. the RE products 'LOOK' like a great bang for the money but if ur REALLY picky for the sq side it seems like some dont like em. but thats a select few of course.

Here's how I would decide between an HC and an SP
15.

If you mainly listen to RAP/BASS heavy music the
HC 15 will do you just fine. On these types of
music the 2 subs sound very, very close. Plus the HC is cheaper so it's a better bang for the buck for your average guy who wants to bump.

If you prefer to listen to a wide range of music from freestyle, to international to love songs to RAP then I think the SQ of the SP will really benefit you.

I agree, 5 cu/ft would sound worse..

the aim for SQ, is for a smooth in car response then (depending on the subs specs - the size is relative to the specs..) a box big box is worse, since it will be peakier, either down low (once you take into account a cars transfer function) or higher if it is tuned high..

judging from the rest of your comments about the HC, it seems you agree with me..

best SQ (to me anyway), would be more like 2 cu/ft tuned in the high 20s

btw, if anyone wants "tight" "musical" "upfront" bass, then I'd recommend some strong midbass drivers installed well...

I dunno maybe some people prefer peaky responses..

For the most part I agree except for 2 points:

1) I'm not an extreme SQ person -- that is I don't
like an ultra flat response. I like more low end
in my bass. What I don't like is muddy sounding
bass and the SP is cleaner than the HC in this
regard. I want it LOUD and CLEAR not audiophile
like frequency response.

Also if you look here RE themselves recommend
3 cu. ft. on up for daily use.

http://respl.com/15hcspecs.html

"3 cuft on up for ported (3.5 cuft tuned to 35 Hz for daily)"

My 3.8 cu. ft and 33 tune is very close to their
recommendations.

2) a 2 cu. ft. box tuned into the 20s would present too long of a port for practical purposes.
Somewhere is the 30s would be the best trade off.

Hey, good memory Goldberg. No I got rid of that
box awhile back. My current box is still 1/2" but
the face is 1.5" and I made sure to brace this
box very well. Suprisingly it doesn't flex nearly
as much as the other box -- I still managed to
eek out 144 db or so from that gawd-awful box - I'm doing about 146-148 right now on the HC and SP

And I might add, I've seen his box in person and does look pretty braced....that RE of his plays pretty low too!! BTW, whats up...this is Dennis that bought the 9515 from ya!!

You gotta hear the ED man it sounds real nice --

the sp15 motor has a different style then the 9515's motor but both subs are ALMOST identical in size... same ~size motor structure, same mounting depth (give or take a millimeter), the spider looks and feels like an eclipse aluminums (fabric like), and the tinsel lead is pretty big and the cone has a pad on it so its impossible to have the leads slap the cone! (i dont have any numbers or wire sizes) maybe someone else can get u exact numbers

Dimensions would be good anyhow ! diameter of the motor, thickness of the triple stack magnets etc..

The motor of the SP looks exactly like the HC 15's motor.

I'll have some pics of the SP 15 next to an HC 15
by Monday.

Nah, the 9515 is still needing recone. I plan to send it in once I get the mounting diameter of the sub done...I'm in the middle of building the box for it right now. Once its cut and fits good, off to DD it goes. The amp is still needing repair also. I think I may have found a buyer for it and just buy a whole new amp...same amp tho. As for the twin 15w3's you saw in person and the box...there were 2 things that made it sound ****ty. One is the vent length was way too short. I finally gotta email from JL Audio and they told me 19.630" long!! Also the vent area was way too big. To make a long story short, I ended up cutting the big box in 1/2 and remade an enclosure you see under my sig. The pink stuff is bondo. How's it sound?? Better!! in fact, I can hear a 20Hz note whereas I couldn't before hand. The tuning on it is around 30Hz. Perhaps you and I can get together again sometime so I can listen to your ED sub.

The new box is looking good Den. What's the
specs on it? How many cubes and sq inches of port?

5 cubes and 70 sq. inches of port for the DD will
rock your world man :-)

E-mail when you get the DD installed I want to hear it also.

That box you see in my sig is for a single 15w3 of course. Specs are 4 cubes with a vent length of a little over 19.5" long. The port is 8x5 which is 40 sq. in. As for the DD box, it's gonna be 5 cubes and 50 sq. in. of port and 16" long for a tuning of 35Hz. So I was told, this will yeild good low bass also loud at the same time. I guess it'll be a SQL box. Hey lookup loudblzr if ya got AIM!!

Parts that make the motor are the same.

Still nothing short of completely different drivers.

no the SP and 9515 are not the same size, except for high, the 9515 weights about 10 pounds more, not that any of that matters.

I had the Shocker 15, I blew it. Here's how I'd
rank the subs I've own as far as SQL goes:

1) ED SP 15
2) DD 9515
3) RE HC 15
4) Shocker Xtreme 15
5) Treo CSX 15

I've heard the IDMAX, Brahma 12 and 15 also.

I think the ED SP 15 is up there with the Brahma
in terms of SQ. I'd have to hear them side by
side to give a better review...
