I was wondering what would give my better spl. The Elemental design a series 15", or the RE SE 15"? I will most likely get two and port them with 2.5 ft3. Would my JBL 1200.1 run those subs good ported? Or will I have to get an amp with a subsonic Filter? I am clueless when it comes to ported encluses so how would I design the box? Should I give each sub its own chamber and port? Or should I have them share 5 ft with one big port? And what should I make the dimensions of the port be? Could someone please walk me through building ported enclosures or give my a diagram for a dual sub ported box? the max trunk space I have is 53x19x16.5 for the outside of the box, and 50x17.5x15 internally. thanks

and when is the new A series comeing out and does anyone know how much they will be? thanks

Hiya,
seriously both r good subs but i would go 4 the RE's as im an owner of 2 already...i know they sound great!
Dont worry bout space sounds like uv got enough with those dimensions, not sure on exactly how many cubes id use 4 the 15's, id prob go 4- 3cu.ft per sub enclosure with slot port tuned 2 around 35Hz. oh and ur amp will run it!! [Smile]

English translation:

Ok. Here's what I'm gonna tell you; You can take it or leave it. I left a post like a week ago and they closed it because they don't want anybody to know the truth. Dont buy either; buy a JL (Audio sub).

_

Just because your post was closed (i have no recollection of such a post being closed) doesn't mean that you have to bad mouth either sub. Who doesn't want who to know the truth about what? Please give your reasons why this person should not buy either sub. I am perfectly happy with my Resonant Engineering sub to the point that I have already conviced a few people that I have never met in person to sell their sub(s) and buy a Resonant Engineering sub. Additionally, I am hearing great things from people on this board and others about the Elemental Designs subs. Have you ever heard either sub? If so, state the box type/specifics and amp used in the setup.

And finally, why would you suggest this person to buy a JL sub over Resonant Engineering or Elemental Designs? Except for maybe the W7, JL's subs are not in the same class as either sub in question.

KayGee is a new member to the board. This is a rather poor impression of the things to expect here at the termpro.com Audio Forum. I have been at this forum for over a year and am very happy here. I have learned so much information from the guys actually out there on the "battlefront" of the dB Drag Racing lanes. In return, I have spent many hours sharing and passing this knowledge onto others through this forum, other forums, and discussion with others via email and instant messenging.

I will do a search for your posts (just 14 so far so it should be easy to find your closed post (if it does exist, anyway)). If it does exist, I am guessing that there was some bad talk involved in it. Anyway......

KayGee, WELCOME TO TERMPRO!!! If you stick around, I'm sure you will learn a thing or two here!

I was wondering what would give my better spl. The Elemental design a series 15", or the RE SE 15"?

not sure. alaska is a good person to ask about elemental designs.

I will most likely get two and port them with 2.5 ft3.

I do know that the re se 15" will want a lot more airspace than that. try at least 4 cubes per sub.

Would my JBL 1200.1 run those subs good ported? Or will I have to get an amp with a subsonic Filter?

again, i can answer for the re... one amp per pair would be just fine. one sub per amp may run w/o blowing but the warranty would be void suppose u fry it. as far as the subsoinic goes, i have a harrison labs fmod that u can get from parts express. get the 30 hz high pass model. cost about $32 shipped. it's cheep insurance for your sub, imo.

I am clueless when it comes to ported encluses so how would I design the box? Should I give each sub its own chamber and port? Or should I have them share 5 ft with one big port?

that's my opinoin. go w/ that. from what you are saying, im strongly urging you to get 12s and not 15s. unless you can give up more airspace or unless you choose to go w/ just one 15, i would get 2 12s.

And what should I make the dimensions of the port be?

up to you. pls read the port tutorial by jl. i would start off with about 40-50" of port for a 15 and 25-30" for a 12. for 2 subs double that amount.

Could someone please walk me through building ported enclosures or give my a diagram for a dual sub ported box? the max trunk space I have is 53x19x16.5 for the outside of the box, and 50x17.5x15 internally. thanks

50x17.5x15 internally = 13125 / 1728 = 7.6 or so. is that the total amount of room in your trunk or the size u wanna give up? MAKE SURE THE BOX CAN BE INSERTED INTO THE OPENING OF THE TRUNK!!! that would suck if it wouldn't fit.

and when is the new A series comeing out and does anyone know how much they will be? thanks

couldn't tell ya....

Might be the same company making the subs, who knows. does it matter if they look the same? no

Perception and reality are two very different things. I say go Elemental.

if you do go elemental then the e15a's would want more than 2.5 each more around 4-5 cubes each...but if you are stuck on 2.5 each i would suggest you go with 12's

Thanks for all your help. Tempe, I was wondering what box you suggested the one where the subs share a port, or where each one has its own chamber and port? thanks

Would this be a good design for an enclosure?http://woodlawncabinetry.homestead.com/PortedSPL170Box.html

Or maybe this one with two subs and 3 ports instead of 3 subs?

http://woodlawncabinetry.homestead.com/12w7EnclosurePorted.html

If anyone has pictures or designs for a ported bax for two subs, could you please give me a link or something? thanks

I found a couple more designs:

http://virtual-technologies.com/boxes.html

Or,

http://www.speakerhole.com/product.cfm?ProductID=892

I wouldn't buy a prefab box, I would most likely make it, but what design would work better, shared port or seperate ports? thanks

Nope, different manufacturers, but both very good manufacturers. [Big Grin] [Wink]
