my amp has been acting up lately. namely blowing fuses and not turning on. so i hooked everything up just a min ago. then i connected the power wire to the battery. i walked back to see if the amp was on. i looked at it and it was smoking out of every hole possible. so i ran back up and ripped the power wire out of its fuse holder. now i took the amp out of the car. and where the wire from the battery connects to it i can see its a little burnt in there. i havent taken it completely apart yet to see the rest. i have had problems with this area before and toasted the connector piece. but it worked fine for a while after i soldered that piece back in. so how do i test it. btw i didnt have a sub hooked up when i was doing this.....could that have caused it? i was just trying to see if the amp would turn on.

typically if it blows fuses constantly upon turn-on, there's a short inside the amp somewhere...namely the power supply...could also be a short in the power wire too...but more than likely the amp itself is toast...releasing the magic smoke is a bad sign...but not entirely definitive in every case...the blowing fuses isn't good tho...RIP amp...*moment of silence*

Once settled, the fully adjustable seat is very comfortable, the plane leaves and arrives on time without a single problem, the in-flight meal is wonderful. ya ive had a old power acoustik amp for awhile and it smoked several times. you could even see blackened stuff inside the amp! but it still worked suprisingly. but then it got a final smoke and was no more........ i even got one of my old broken amps fixed. hooked it up and poof a ball of smoke but it still worked again.... but shortly after i seen that i got rid of that thing to a friend and suprisingly it still works to this day. its just luck...... but i wouldnt want it pushing my subs.

Man, my Kicker amp has been thrown out of a car, hit the pavement, and probably still works. I need to hook it up, but everything is tight inside. I guess it's just the cards life deals us.

the amp was an orion xtreme 900. it was the nicest amp around here. most of my friends all ride around with 2 jenson amps that are about the same size and weight as a paperback book. it has smoked once before and it still worked. but that time wasnt as bad as this. weird thing is that no fuses blew. i solved the fuse problem the other day....the wire going from the amp to the cap was loose. im gonna check it in the morning i had my dad solder where the power wire connects tighter. last time it smoked on me that piece came completely out. we soldered it back in and it worked fine. to test it i just hook it to the battery and ground it and run a remote wire straight from the battery and it should turn on right? results in the morning.
