Ok, for those installers who have installed GPS systems under the dash of a vehicle I need to know what you tap into for power? Ignition, Accessory???

My Company is installing these in our vehicles as a trial and I need a way around it. [Wink]

2004 Ford Freestar. When installed they are kind enough to put a colored mark on all connections that if tampered with will be seen. [Eek!]

Do you really have to ask why? [Roll Eyes] Although I get my job done everyday I enjoy my long lunches with the Wife, Yellow zones at the malls, running by my folks house for a home cooked meal, looking at cars, looking at boats and last but not least...Catching a nap. [Big Grin]

Its a 30 day trial and I'll do what it takes to not make it a permanent situation. [Wink] [Cool]

LMFAO.... thats funny.
is it a company vehicle?

if not id say cut the original wire, and reroute it thru a toggle switch relay. but it would have to be reran preaty far back and look factory so they dont think anything [Wink]

i would think if they have a tamper proof wires on the unit then youd think they would also have the antena the same way.

thier might be another way as well... what kinda tag does it have on it? can ya get a picture of them?

or posibly if ya can pull apart the unit and do alittle rewiring yourself internaly off the board, like unsolder the ground or power wire off the board and solder in your own wire with a toggle switch, or hell just burn the thing up and if they say what happened just be like..... it was a lemon i guess.... Which model do you have installed on your vehicle? The most popular one is the Motorola MU-500. and usually it is used with either fleet track or car track. It is interfaced with the on board computer of your vehicle. It has a back up battery and memory so when it loses contact via sattelite it will verify information via cellular towers the preffered provider is cingular along with the data stored from the vehicles on board computer to match that information. The MU-500 also has the capability of monitoring voice conversations, which is highly illegal in florida where I am from but legal in other contries that is why they have the capability. Please be advised that the software can be set up to send an e-mail to your fleet manager for any number of reasons. Like Tampering with the system,speeding,geo-fencing unauthorized use etc.
With gas prices and the cost of insuring vehicels going thru the roof, many companies are taking advantage of this technology. You have to remember whose vehicle it is, they have every right to monitor it`s whereabouts. Ask them for a written policy on what you can and can`t use the vehicle for. Or you can hit the sattelite receiver attenea usually mounted on the inside of the front windsheild with an electro magnetic pulse and burn the RAM chip on the motherboard!!

Hope this helps

The unit is made by motorola and repackaged as the LMU-4000 for this company. If you disconnect the GPS anttena, it will use the onboard cellular to do a locate, and notice the fleet manager that there is a malfuntion with the GPS signature after x amount of time because GPS will lose signal from time to time from interference and the back up is the cell locator, which is not as accurate, but the on board ram chip keeps memory as to speed engine on off conditions etc. and will record up to 10000 events.
