Don't get me wrong.. I LOVE huge subs but guess what-- don't blame the lawmakers! Blame the "kid-next-door-with-a-Rockford" bumping the hell out on stoplights. In other words, these kids make US all look bad.
And guess what? That "kid" might be none other than yourself. Maybe if people just "tone it down" on stoplights and residential areas, you wouldn't see such "stupid" laws
Something to think about
im with you there. if everyone simply turned it down a bit at stoplights and in residential areas, we would not have these laws.
as for the harleys, they have a semi-decent excuse. their loud exhausts makes other drivers on the highway more aware of them. im willing to be more than a few people on here havent seen a bike in their blindspot at one time or another.
secondly, how long have loud cars and bikes been around? forever. almost as long as cars have been made, there was someone running an open exhaust. how long have loud stereos been around? maybe 15 years. even 15 years ago the systems werent nearly as loud as they are today. "systems" are a relatively new problem in relation to loud exhausts.

Hum...I don't understand the whole deal behind "boom car" laws, what about those trucks/muscle cars with loud ass pipes and Harleys that can be heard from blocks away? Don't get me wrong but not everyone has a 140+dB car stereo and have it cranked all day long, but everytime those car/bikes go from a stop it's a noise violation IMO.
These lawmakers are targeting the wrong people.

Being respectful of others is a crock? That's the attitude that this law is made because of.

yes it would...look at it in someone elses eyes(lets say the owner of a small store at the corner of an intersection). what would piss him(and his customers) off more, a car driving by with the bass cranked up, or a car stopped at the light bumping for a minute or more. the answer is obvious. sure the guy driving by will still piss them off, but not nearly as much as the guy sitting at the light.
i live right next to a semi-major highway, and during rush hour traffic, its basically a parking lot next to my house. it gets really annoying hearing the same system just sitting there bumping away.

...I donno man, personally I'd rather hear BOOM BOOM TICK BOOM BOOM TICK w/Lil Jon screaming in the back. Loud car exhaust annoys me more than "boom cars" because it's not music at all.

and the noise coming from a boom car is music? I don't get it..
And one more thing-- Why do boom car owners blast their system on mall parking lots? They intentionally make car alarms go off! why?? I don't understand this concept. Does that make you feel more macho with your Audiobahn?

I don't know if this will help but in ohio, the city I live in passed a similar "order" that said something like if they could hear the sound from so far.. and so on.. that they could issue a ticket.. My aunt told me to review the ORC (ohio revised code) that encompasses all of ohio. In reviewing that they have a noise ordinance that says you have to be 79.6db above ambient noise. I talked to her and she said that rating is just like a ticket if you ask the officer to prove their statement on site they are required to (which is why no matter what you ask to see the radar). I've been pulled over twice for "noise violations" and since they don't have a meter in their car they can't do much... and if you present the information right they'll know they can't do anything otherwise you can present that in court and it will be dismissed... altogether a waste of time but better a waste of time than a waste of time and money.
problems cannot be solved by trying to oppress rather a mutual agreement must be made.

uhhhhh doesnt sound travel behind the bike from the exhaust? wouldnt it be a little hard to hear them in your blindspot ?
I wonder how many cops own bikes...hmmmmm
The noise vagueness laws reminds me about the 13 times I went to court in College Station Texas for my underbody neon. I kept getting pulled over every weekend night because of my tubes (none of them were showing, just the light glow on the ground) .. I kept getting off on a technicality of the light being a REFLECTION onto the cement below my car. Which I argued is no different than when I pass McDonalds at night, and the big yellow glow from the sign shines on the street below and under my car. I got every single neon ticket dropped. Unitl the cops got used to seing my car, and got me for doing 3 wheel thru a stop light
Of course when the cop pulled me over for hydros he yelled at me "did you think that was safe to do in an intersection?" and of course my dumb smart azz remark was "YES" and was issued a ticket immediately

The only real problem I have with a law like this is the vagueness of 50' with and targeting solely music etc. So with this in mind when I'm driving my drop top camaro I better have the radio off because if a person were to take this law in a very literal way it could be made to pull me over. Along these same lines I almost bet that most police officers will use this as an excuses to stop a vehicle and then proceed to find other things to either cite a person for are to search their car. As most people I know who have fairly nice equipment typically have many after market parts, wheels, and tint which always seems to attract police and the aforementioned searches etc. Now again I think that some arbitrary footage mark is just play asinine in every way citing another example everyone better switch from Nextel phones because you can here those for about a block some times. Now I know I'm taking some extreme examples and using them in a situation where a law is passed to keep ignorant people who bump at 3:00 am at max levels but don't you think that a noise ordinance would be better handled on a case by case level instead of some blanket law that has most likely no funding or equipment to justify the fines. I don't understand how we can fine people the same amount for something like this as a MIP or other misdemeanor (including court cost) those of course have the proper equipment to assure a fair and reasonable cause for a citation. I guess since I have never had a problem with getting tickets and I have had some pretty loud stuff over the years, I should calm down a bit but I just don't understand laws that are so ridiculous. It’s just about as bad as laws pertaining to sexual acts and not walking your pet alligator down the street.
OK thats my rant

its because of ******* like u they are imposing stupid laws. i have much respect for the law, but not when they are putting ignorant things together like this. but then i look at the point of doing something as stupid as 3 wheel motion thru a intersection, or sit at a light and burp 150db and watch as people around u bitch, and u laugh. i see this to often, and starting to realize, man... we should have some kinda restictions for morons.

Trust me they aren't just angry at the stop-lighters.
I was driving down a country road two nights ago that has a speed limit of 50mph, I was doing 60. There are houses along the road, but I figure doing 60mph past it, I doubt I will wake anyone up.
I get to the one guy's yard and turned it down/slowed down b/c he was standing in the middle of the street.
Then I noticed he had a bat in hand. He started screaming that he heard me coming for 15 minutes and was going to break my stereo.
Needless to say I drove around very quickly....

I said "not only" as in they are also mad at stuff like this.
In my opinion it all comes down to the over sensitivity of some people. I turn mine down at stoplights and residential areas.
People need to seriously calm down and realize its not such a big deal.
u just said u were driving down a "road" dont matter were, at NIGHT, obvisouly playing it loud, and dont matter if ur windows are up, and it is a big deal in that case, ur being stupid, disturbing the peace, and giving people who DONT do stupid 5hit like that but like the sport, a bad name! u made a perfect exsample and made urself look stupid, now u can go to bed, and i'll drive by ur house see how u like it (and im sure mines louder lol).
yeah, there are times when people are to sensitive about it, but i can tell.. u dont see to much of that, because im betting that they are being disturbed in a great way, there for, its ur fault for not having respect.
man i need a beer

we have a similar, and more strict law here in toledo.
if "the cop" can here your system, 50 feet away, its a $100 fine for the first offense. te second offense is $200 and the thrd offense, they can impound your system. NOT your vehicle, just your system.
however, if they do not posses the tolls at the moment, to seize your system.... they CAN impound your vehicle until such time as they can remove the system.
i voted FOR this law.
i dont blast my system in a neighborhood setting, and i dont crank it at stoplights.. unless my windows are up.
i know exaclty how loud my system is from 50 feet away with the windows up... and if i am driving with it that loud... i shouldn't be.
i like to bump too. but there is no reason to disturb the rest of the world while doing it.
i am also an aware driver, i keep my eyes peeled for anything and everything. including police. see one, turn it down. didn't see him... then you shoulda been paying better attention.
think about it. if a cop hears your system 50 feet away, and his windows are up, and your windows are up... that's just too damned loud for daily driving.
the main reason the law was introduced here, and why it got a yes vote from me... was to try and do something about the 17 year old punks who drive through the neighborhood at 3am with the windows down and the system slammin.
i compete. i'd say my car is fairly loud, and i'm proud of it.
but even i have gone out into the street to stop cars driving past my house, and told them to turn the crap down.
